The character was already created by the time that they approached Bell - however, they did make the part "meatier and more three-dimensional" after she signed on.

I don't have a problem with Kristen herself, just the way her placement with the Heroes cast was so obviously a PR move. And it seemed a bit tacky to me that she was placed front and center on a night celebrating achievements from the past year in television and the people who were actually on the show that was nominated for Best Drama during that period got bumped to the back row for someone whose episodes haven't even aired yet.
And again, it just felt weird because Heroes is already hugely popular and they don't have to rely on stuntcasting or highlighting a new cast member at an award show to boost their profile in such an obvious way. And I think that while KB is very popular in certain pockets of the population (and with some television journalists in the media), the ratings of her show proved that it isn't necessarily the case with the overall American viewing audience.
I think this is all compounded for me because like I said before, while I think KB is good and generally I like her I think the hype surrounding her is a little out of step with her actual talent. So watching the Emmys last night I kinda felt like, "Really? She gets to sit up front while people like Hayden Pana-whatever gets bumped to the second row? Uh...why, exactly?"

Casting Kristen was definitely a ratings stunt. Heroes ratings took a huge dive in January and I can understand wanting to cast Kristen. Veronica Mars didn't have huge ratings, but the fans are very loyal and in the sci-fi world that's what matters. It is the same reason Lost tried to hire Kristen.

So Kristen is voicing a character in "Assassin's Creed" and she let drop some serious plot spoilers. Gah! I will not look...I will not look...
Ms Bell, why would you seek to spoil this game for me and the countless other gamers of the world?

Ms Bell, why would you seek to spoil this game for me and the countless other gamers of the world? I know. My boyfriend read that article and was pissed. He'd only been waiting for that game release forever, and in a few short paragraphs all the mystery was gone. And don't look, ellecee. Resist the temptation.

Apparently she is in a new film produced by Judd Apatow called Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was written by Jason Segel (he was Nick on Freaks and Geeks and is in pretty much any Apatow productions- most recently the skeevy friend in Knocked up. He is also on that show How I Met Your Mother). It is based on his experiences breaking up with a tv star who he dated for over 5 years, which if you are a Jason Segel fan means he wrote this about Linda Cardellini (the star of Freaks and Geeks who is now on ER). I'm kind of interested to see this....

That's interesting. I read somewhere that Linda dumped him because he got fat. I hope this movie doesn't destroy my Freaks & Geeks love.

I'm not sure how the air drumming is an example of her trying too hard. It's from Adrian Pasdar's YouTube account where he posts clips of all his cast members acting crazy/fun/weird. He's got Sendhil pondering eating an apple, Greg attacking a lab crazily, and Milo letting him know it's Saturday.
She was Masi's date to the Emmys. That's why she sat up front with him. Now, whether the network told Masi to invite her, I don't know. There are pictures of her, Masi, and Zach dancing together at a Emmy Pre-Party so it's not hard for me to believe he wanted her there.

I too am somewhat baffled by how quickly people seem to be condemning her for attending the Emmys and giving red carpet interviews. Of course, I love her, so I am obviously biased, but you do have to be invited to the Emmys to be able to attend. I think if I were a Heroes fan, I would probably be a little miffed about the fact that she got to sit up front while some of the Heroes stars had to sit behind her (honestly, she's not even a real cast member, so it seems a little ridiculous that she gets such a place of honor), but as far as I know (and some people here have backed this up), Kristen didn't get to pick her seat, so she's not really responsible for the seating arrangement. The seats are assigned before anyone even shows up to the ceremony, so it's not like she shoved everyone else out of the way to get a front row seat. I guess I don't see how showing up to an event to which you are invited and promoting a show on which you are set to appear is famewhore-y. I think it's clear that the people behind Heroes expected her to do the obligatory press rounds on the red carpet. Also, IMO, a famewhore is someone who: a) has no talent whatsoever but keeps showing up everywhere so that they can become famous just by getting their face out there OR b) has talent but can't go two seconds without attention (for example, the people who clearly LOVE being photographed by the paparazzi, but like to pretend as though they just want to lead a private life).
I am a fan, but I don't keep that up to date about where she is or what she's doing, so I'm not sure how many other events she tends to attend; if she is constantly showing up at events when she has nothing to promote, then I could see where some people might be a bit wary of her intentions.
I'm not one of those crazy fan-girls who thinks Kristen can do no wrong, but I am genuinely confused by the negativity surrounding her appearance at the Emmys. I hope no one feels that I am insulting them or condemning their opinions; I'm just expressing my own opinion, which is no more or less valid than anyone else's. As with any celeb, there are people who like her and people who don't.

I don't dislike Kristen Bell, who seems like a cute & pleasant person, but all the hullaballo over Veronica Mars and claiming her to be Teh Best Actress EVAH!!! really makes me want to avoid her. I'm sort of fatigued of her without ever having watched anything she's been in. I realize VM had all the nerd fury behind it ... That is excellent. If I ever have a band, it will totally be called Nerd Fury.
