I wish they would do that. People like Drew Barrymore and Kate Winslet dont bow to the pressure.

Well, it's nothing new in Hollywood. Case in point - Has anyone seen any of Marilyn Monroe's dresses? Elizabeth Hurley can rot for all I care, because MM was tiny - small shoulders and tiny waist. I'd have been lucky to fit into it at 14. My point is that stars from the Golden Era were even smaller. But it is different now, because everyone has to be a fashion plate. And they all buy into it. I'm sure it must feel pretty grand to wear a $30000 gown and have your hair styled by Frederic Fekkai.
Making movies at that level, ie as a leading lady/man in a studio picture, you have to be perceived as sexy, from a marketing standpoint, to get a job. What ever your age, what ever your physique. Someone the men want to screw and women want to be, and hopefully vice versa, all in one package. Why else would Al Pacino have those hair plugs?
It is not betraying their art, whatever Russell Crowe and the late Heath Ledger said, but they have a point. Clive Owen, whose physical appeal is based on his rugged, old-school masculinity, is plugging moisturiser? Kate Winslet who openly prides herself on being a "normal" woman who despises Botox is airbrushed to oblivion on a perfume adverts?
In truth they are the lucky ones, because they are not flogging clothing. Because the clothes that are created to look fit the bodies of Lily Cole and Gemma Ward look pretty silly on short, large chested Scarlett Johansson. I can't tell you the amount of times I have seen her in a dress that simply doesn't fit. Actually, the same goes for the boyishly thing, but even smaller Natalie Portman.

I wish they would do that. People like Drew Barrymore and Kate Winslet dont bow to the pressure. They might not be size 0s but don't think that these two women don't spend a lot of time working out, dieting, and grooming themselves. They just don't take it as far as some others and they don't talk about it in the press. I would bet that Drew's a 4 and Winslet a 6 (US). In the real world, that is pretty slim, but in H'wood it's "curvy." Kate was actually quite heavy as a teenager, but lost the weight for Heavenly Creatures. Topic? I think Julianne Moore is way overrated as an actress.

It never fails, though. It's got to be tough, though, for the new "normal" sized (read: still pretty thin) ones. Nobody wants to feel like the biggest girl at the party. I think even if they didn't have executives telling them to lose, the pressure to compete with all the other skinny actresses would drive a lot of them to lose weight.
I've always thought Julianne Moore is gorgeous. If she's had work done, like you guys said, it's been subtle. I wish she'd start making more movies; I always enjoy her performances. And yes, her daughter is going to be gorgeous. She looks just like her mother! I'd kill for their hair color.

She is one of the cutest celebrity children I have seen. Julianne and her daughter have the most beautiful red hair, and it matches so well with their pale skin. I've never particularly liked red hair, but it suits both Julianne and her daughter. On being thin in Hollywood, I think Hollywood execs are out of touch with what type of body frame the public finds attractive. I don't know one man who likes freakishly thin women. Most men I know like women with a healthy body weight, and boobs. I think the same goes for women. I think being underweight is just as unattractive as being obese. Nicole Richie and Angelina Jolie do not have enviable bodies in my mind. They both look like they are sick and need to eat. I'd like to see more actresses who are a healthy weight. I'm a size 4, and I guess that would be considered curvy in Hollywood (seeing as women like Jessica Alba somehow get labeled curvy.) I think that's ridiculous, as I am thin compared to most women I meet in the real world. I've often wished I could be more curvy, but my body is just not built that way.

Drew is maybe even a 2. She's very petite, which is why it blows my mind that she was considered the "biggest" of the Charlie's Angels bunch. Her upper body is softer and curvier than the average starlet's, which is probably why she's considered an anomaly in the land of sternums and silicon.
I've also seen Julianne Moore in person, and I thought she had a surprisingly "normal" body for Hollywood, meaning thin and toned but not anorexic-looking. Which is sad...you have to actually look sick to be "Hollywood thin." Her hair is really a ridiculously beautiful color.

It is incredible how thin a lot of the actresses are. I saw Rebecca Gayheart recently and she's so skinny she looks like she could wear kids clothes if she wasn't so tall.
One note on Drew - if you saw her within the past year, Diablo, she's slimmed a lot - she lost about 20lbs post Charlie's Angels. I hate how self-conscious about her body she seems in CA. It drives me crazy and makes me sad.
Anyway, I think Liv is the most gorgeous celeb kid out there. Apple, Violet, step aside, please. Ryder? You may look like a girl, but even so don't measure up. And J and Bart seem like cool people, so my hopes are high that Liv will turn out gorgeous and cool. I hope she plays drums in a rock band or something.

Yeah the pressure to remain/get stick thin is but one of the million of reasons I could never attempt a movie star lifestyle. Drew and Kate W. are by new strectch big girls but I often hear how they represent the "curves" of Hollywood. I am like WTF? On a totally random side note, my ex bf and I went to see "The Forgotten" and where making out like crazy. I actually stopped kissing him and just stared at her beauty. It got to the point where my ex was noshing on my breast and I was drooling at Julianne, so wrong yet so right.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent on this one and say I'm not too impressed with this. It seems like everytime some starlet comes out and says "Oh Hollywood is so MEAN! They make us starve ourselves!" everyone reacts with this she's-so-brave attitude and commends them for their candor. It's gotten to the point where I think some of them just do it for good PR, like they want to strike a chord with everyone by proving how honest and open they are.
The only thing is, it really is ultimately a choice. No one is forcing her to stay in Hollywood, and while pressure can be a powerful force, she (along with all the others) is starving herself of her own free will. I'm not going to feel sorry for a person who presents herself as a victim and complains about how awful Hollywood is yet at the same time continues to play its game. History is littered with Oh Woe is Me women, but sadly what it isn't littered with is women who stood up for themselves. Until Julianne falls into the latter category, she doesn't have my sympathies.

I agree. She's far along enough in her career to not play the super-skinny card. She could still get quality roles if she put on 10 pounds, and Lord knows she has enough money now to retire. Or to do independent films or ground-breaking theatre for the rest of her days. She's not a 21 year old ingenue.
