Margojata, if she brought out an ALS patient, people would just say she was jumping on the bandwagon and capitalizing on the ice bucket challenge attention. Plus I don't see why the awareness raised by the videos means that other social/medical issues and charities have to be ignored; there are plenty of other causes out there that are just as worthy, and if anything, I think this gives even more reason for them to be acknowledged. I think it will be great if the ice bucket challenge is a gateway for a lot of people who wouldn't have thought about donating or volunteering to start doing so with the charity/cause of their choice, whether it's ALS or another issue close to their heart. Miley can be a twit, but I think her heart was in the right place on this (even if she did look ridiculous...). Although, I did laugh at your Brando comparison.

Try being 52. I'm dying for the days of Michael Jackson and Emanuel Lewis. Or even give me Andy Gibb.
Nah, I get that other charities are worthy, of course. I just could not get up the emotion to cry and flail like she did so ridiculously. And I still think it was mostly shock/famewhore driven. I'm sure she thought she won the night with that stunt. Until Beyoncé one-upper her by bringing out her child. Maybe Miley can start carrying around sick dogs or something.

Yeah. When she rolled up to Sway on the red carpet, he pronounced her "Queen of the VMAs!" Uh. No. When I heard him say that I thought Madonna had showed up.

I thought the idea was great but the execution went awry. The audience was either too young or too confused to understand when to clap.

There is a gif making the rounds of Miley mouthing "asshole" at Ed Sheeran as he went up to accept his VMA. I guess she doesn't like him because he criticized her for twerking last year.

I didn't watch last night, but I saw the pictures this morning. She looked good.
I'm liking this short cut.

Wtf did she do last night? When she won the best video (? I think? I was half asleep), she sent up a young homeless guy to talk about the terrible tragedy of homeless teens on the streets of LA - all while she stayed off stage and cried. Gimme a break - you are no Marlon Brando sending out Littlefeather. I guess she wanted to find some way to grab a headline, but why not bring out an ALS patient or something since that's what everyone is talking about (and it's a lot more heartwarming)? Geez these people are obnoxious. I immediately thought of Marlon Brando too. Nobody will ever top that moment of WTF. I think Miley did a good job of finding a cause that her fans can relate to and that is also under the radar and could use more attention. Many of these kids get caught up in prostitution and human trafficking and their sad lot in life doesn't get the sympathy it deserves because of victim-blaming, which isn't the case with a disease like ALS. Right now she's asking for funds for a shelter for youth that tries to get them on the right track and avoid a lifetime of drug use, prostitution, and exploitation. I don't doubt that this was a calculated career move on Miley's part. Last year she played the 'good girl gone bad' card and this year she switched it up and went 'bad girl gone good.' But even though her affect was exaggerated during the kid's speech, I'm sure she actually does care as well. All in all, this stunt was a brilliant move! I'm impressed on both fronts.

If her stunt gets that teen shelter built, then all is good.
MTV and the VMA awards have gotten so ridiculous and lightweight anyway, it's impossible for me to get my panties in a bunch over any WTF-uckery that happens there.

The Daily Fail is saying the homeless dude is an aspiring male model whose mother would have welcomed him back at any time. Maybe he had other unknown reasons for leaving home, but the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's a worthwhile cause, but I'm not sure this guy was the best poster child for it.

Here's the article. I don't see anything scandalous here. He was homeless and Miley met him at the shelter. The shelter verified this. It's not like he's an actor pretending to have been homeless. He was probably chosen by Miley's team because he was the best equipped to handle what was being ask of him. Mom saying he's always been welcome home doesn't mean he and other young people like him don't deserve to be helped. Kids run away from home for all sorts of reasons and sometimes seemingly for no good reason at all, but no one knows what goes on behind closed doors or what's going on inside a kid's head. This is the victim-blaming thing I was referring to with this cause. Someone his age being an aspiring model certainly doesn't indicate that his story is fake either. If anything, it's typical. He paid a photographer to take his pictures and signed up with Model Mayhem, a scam site that exploits dumb, desperate young people who think becoming a model will solve all of their problems. If this guy gets a real modeling career with a legitimate agency thanks to his association with Miley, that doesn't erase the facts presented or the worthiness of the cause or the appreciation that My Friend's Place has for what Miley is doing.
