Yeah, Katie holmes doesn't know who to kiss and I doubt that she's getting nightly lessons from Tom.

I have to ask: what's the deal with his accent? He's English, right? I saw him being interviewed on the red carpet a coupla weeks ago and his accent was pure American. I was quite taken aback, as I remembered him as this little Brit kid in Empire of the Sun. What's the story? Is he an American? Or is he a Brit who has he deliberately Americanised himself? (That won't go down too well in the UK.....)
I have friends who live in different countries for years and sure, some of the accent rubs off.......but it's rare that every word, every syllable changes 180 degrees. It's just so strange!
Anyway, his Batman was fantastic. I loved how grown up this Batman was - his face was so stern and care worn. He wasn't a pretty boy at all, but rather a very serious-minded MAN. Liked his performance a lot. (However, Freeman is making a career out of just playing Freeman and I'm getting bored of it, and Katie Holmes came across as a sanctimonious beeyotch.)

He's Welsh actually, and I think his natural accent is still Welsh. I heard he's decided to use the American accent while doing publicity for Batman, not to stay in character exactly, but to be consistant with the movie.

Good Lord, if that's true, what a silly idea!
What a ridiculously actor-y notion - to imagine that the viewing public will somehow be turned off by the idea that he has a different accent to the character, and that their suspension of belief will be somehow compromised.
No other Brit actors feel the need to put on an assumed accent for their publicity, despite that fact that they spend half their careers putting on American accents. If Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones feel no need to hide their Welsh accents (and Ioan Gruffudd, who turned up in front of the microphone at the MTV Movie Awards with the broadest Welsh accent there is) then why does he imagine that it's helpful to the movie to do so? What a foolish notion!

Regarding his accent, he definitely has a British accent, but he said that Batman is such an American icon that he decided he'd stay in character while doing promo work for the film. He has also said in interviews that it takes a bit of time for him to slip back into his natural accent, and I think he's currently working on a film in which he uses an American accent again so maybe he's having temporary difficulty finding his natural one.

From what I gather, he's VERY talented at mastering accents. It could also be that since he's spending a lot of time in the States, that he's just naturally picking up the accent. I also believe he lived for quite a time in California when he was in his teens.
Nothing wrong with that.

Caught a few minutes of Velvet Goldmine in the wee hours of the morning and I marveled again at the variety of roles some actors are able to portray.

Sounds like the guy needs to go home to trace back his roots.
Saw him in Equilibrium. Sucky movie, but he was enjoyable. Especially the shirtless scenes.

He was born in Wales but moved a lot when he was growing up. I think he wsa raised primarily in England though, and that's why he considers himself British. However, he's been living in the U.S. for a few years and likes it as much as he does England so I'm not altogether sure that even he knows where his actual roots lie. He's just a wanderer, I suppose.
