That's hilarious because it's so very true.
For better or worse, Halle is considered A-List because the powers that be assume that the heartland - the Great American fly-over states - don't mind her.
It wouldn't be so bad if she hadn't been declared the one. The only one that is allowed.
Everyone knows there are more talented black actresses. But there are also actresses who are just as gorgeous as Halle with real screen presence who can't get arrested.

Halle needs to get a new therapist and work on herself before she gets involved in another relationship. Learn how to be on your own and be happy. Than add another person to the equation. Please do not try to fix your issues by bringing a kid into the situation.

And still, she used to interview that she didn't like the size of her nose. When she'd get compliments on her looks, she'd throw out that her nose is too wide or too big. Whatever, Halle.
I blame the ascendancy of Halle Berry's career on two things:
(1) playing the crack addict in Jungle Fever; (2) showing up on every red carpet in the 90s in some admittedly gorgeous dresses.
She's such a hack. The fact that she could play a crack addict half-way decently tells me that the part of "crack addict" is the easiest character for an actor to play. I was watching my washing machine on the spin cycle. It was set to "heavy soil," so it was being all twitchy and making low grumbling noises. And true enough, my energy-efficient Whirlpool captured the essence of "crack addict" just as convincingly as Halle.
I'm still a little bitter that she beat out Jasmine Guy for the lead in Queenie.

Hee!
I don't even think her performance in Jungle Fever was even "halfway decent". I'd say it was poor. It's just that by Halle standards it was "good". Halle's perfomances only range from catastrophic to poor and occassionally the rare borderline when she can manage it. She's never given a genuinely good performance IMO. And I've seen a lot of her attempts at acting. Let's not even get into the Monster's Ball "make me feel ghuuuuurd!". She was hilarious. Then because she did it all without makeup and wearing a bad wig and some ill fitting cheap clothes she gets an Oscar for that mess? That's Hollywood.

I read that Warren Beatty had a hand in that Oscar win. hmmm

If only Warren could have pulled those strings for his wife. Poor Annette. Oprah was also a big promoter of Halle winning an Oscar, saying she knew Halle deserved the award as soon as she saw Monster's Ball. Friends lie shamelessly to each other sometimes. Then all I'll say about that is: Halle was as competent playing "Leticia" as her co-stars. She was as convincing as Puffy, when he's pretending to be a rapper, and Heath Ledger, pretending to care about Naomi Watts during awards season 2004.

I seriously doubt it. All 5800+ members of the Academy have the right to vote on which nominee takes home the Oscar. Maybe he lobbied people, but he couldn't fix it. And I don't know how many of the 5800 members he could successfully lobby. He might have been able to lobby enough actors to secure her a nomination (only actors nominate actors), but that still wouldn't get her the win.

Friends lie shamelessly to each other sometimes. Yes. Look no further than "Catwoman" if you don't believe brinksteria.

Halle has more ambition than reliable acting technique. She should work with only the best directors. People like the guys who helmed Gothika and Catwoman, won't get it.

Halle has more ambition than reliable acting technique. That and opportunity. Because if ANY other black actress had made "Catwoman", they'd be flipping burgers. I just don't understand why she makes so many bad movies and gets a pass over and over and over again.
