I think you may be thinking of Rosario Dawson who is one smart cookie, and very politically active. In which case, the Accidental Goodwill Effect strikes again! For some reason, I'm thinking it is Eva Longoria. She's the politically active one, isn't she? Both Rosario and Eva Longoria are politically active. Eva was especially active in the 2012 presidential race and now she has started a PAC to raise a lot of money for the 2014 midterms. I am a huge fan of Eva Longoria. Eva Menedes is the one who played Will Ferrell's wife in The Other Guys. I give her credit for taking on that bizarre role. She was also in one of the Fast and the Furious movies and Hitch with Will Smith.

I like Rosario too. Seriously, I have no ill will toward Eva (Mendes) because she's not exactly on my radar. All I know is that she seemed pretty adamantly against wanting children and now at 40, she's having a child with someone who rarely acknowledges her. I feel bad for her, actually.
I don't like Ryan. I think the adoration toward Ryan by lots of ladies has actually turned me off him. He seems pretty smarmy and he doesn't register with me.
Good luck to him and Eva because it sounds like they'll need it.

As for them being together, I was one who was truly shocked. But I am tired of the race thing. It's NOT her race. Last I checked Latina was about the closest thing to dating a white girl. Perfectly acceptable in Hollywood. Let's talk race if we ever see him with a dark skin Latina who looks like Zoe Saldana. I was just shocked he would even look at what is at best a "C" list actress. And calling her C list may be generous. He seems like the type that would only date someone on his level talent wise. I read he turned his nose up at Nicole Scherzinger for gods sake. And she is GORGEOUS! I see what you're saying; Latino/a isn't a race per se. And yes, some who are part of the establishment would find dating someone the shade of Jennifer Lopez or Eva Longoria* more acceptable than dating someone the shade of Zoe Saldana. However, I bet there are some would would nix the idea of dating anyone who is Latina - light-skinned or medium-skinned because they are "not quite white". I think the only thing in which I remember seeing Eva was in her role as Denzel Washington's side piece in Training Day. (She has a nice body.) I know Eva had another side-hustle: a line of dishes sold at Macy's. I bought a bowl from the Vida line from a closeout store; it has as an intricate design and it is very pretty. If Ryan doesn't seem to want to claim Eva (as his woman), then why would he pressure her to have his baby? I don't get it. *Interestingly enough Eva Longoria spoke about being perceived as "the ugly dark one" when she was a child. Go figure.

One of my friends has met Eva at parties a few times and says that she is really cool and down-to-earth, but this was several years ago. I think she's very pretty and feel bad that she's getting so much shit over this Ryan Gosling thing. Depending on what rumors/gossip you read, he either forced her into getting pregnant, or she got pregnant to try and trap him into getting married. So, which is it then? My guess is neither, she got knocked up either by accident or on purpose like anyone does. And maybe they're both happy about the baby, but that just doesn't make for a very exciting and scandalous story. "Couple happy but nervous over impending parenthood..." you won't see that on TMZ anytime soon.

I think Ryan and Eva have handled the pregnancy poorly from a PR standpoint. When a celebrity couple isn't married, and one of them has a rabid fanbase, then yeah, people are gonna speculate on the circumstances of the child's conception.
Sure, maybe they are not the types to announce they're expecting on "The Ellen Show" (though Eva had the perfect opportunity in February...) but when you've previously refused to admit dating each other, you need to let the public know in some manner. Have Eva in a bodycon dress holding Ryan's hand in Cannes, or just release a joint statement about the pregnancy and how you are looking forward to becoming parents.
What you don't do, is wait until Eva is well into her third trimester and have one of her family member's leak the story to a tabloid and then refuse to confirm it with an official word from a publicist or manager. Even stepping out for lunch together to let the paps get a photo of the two of them together would be a show of unity. Without any of that, people are left to assume that this baby may be unwanted or unplanned (and even if it is, that certainly should not be the impression you want the public to have.)

I don't think that's completely fair because it all rests on the assumption that they really feel they need to control it or that they feel some kind of obligation to 'the public.' Before this news broke I hadn't thought of or seen her in years despite the fact that if she wanted to get photographed doing a sidewalk tour every day, she could (I mean, if Hilary Duff of all people can get paps to show up, I assume Eva Mendes can), so she must be okay with an extremely low profile. And while Gosling does have a manic following, I personally have never had the impression that he courted it or, frankly, even encouraged it. I get that we're all talking and wondering and gossiping and I would be the first to say I love it, but I don't see how 'letting' us talk about it means Ryan and Eva have made a mistake.
Also, it is only fair to acknowledge that if they had revealed it in most of the ways you suggest she'd be called a famewhore.

I don't know, I kind of respect the fact that they're not acknowledging the McGosling nuts. Outside of those people, does anyone care that much?

No celeb or woman for that matter has an obligation to announce a pregnancy and make it a public spectacle. I didn't know Laura Linney was pregnant until after the birth announcement of her kid.
And honestly if fans are that rabid they'll speculate endlessly about the kids conception or the state of their relationship anyway. I mean there are those who believed Beyonce was faking her pregnancy and she was married sooooo some people will find any excuse to perpetuate a crazy rumor.
Lainey's BI certainly implied he was more keen on parenthood than Eva but they were attending specialists together so she wasn't that adverse to the idea. Plus I'm sure there are those who aren't sure about parenthood until the second their child is born.
I would have loved her to have just stepped out with him somewhere and gotten snapped looking massively pregnant and let that be the reveal. But honestly neither of them owe us that and honestly in this age of celebs milking every private moment for $$$ or publicity I find their low key approach refreshing. So I'm sure the tabs are going to run with every wild theory "he won't marry her", "she got pregnant to keep him" just because they are pissed they weren't in the loop for once.

She's super-private, he has a lot of scary fans. I could see why they would want to keep it quiet as long as possible. Right now on the internet there's a hoard of McGoslings plotting on how this plays into their ship eventually getting together. His fans aren't as bad as Cumberbitches or Hiddlestoners, but they sound unpleasant.

xenna 's post made me think of another celeb and the interesting way she announced her pregnancy: Kimberly Stewart. "I'm pregnant. The father is Benicio Del Toro. No, we are not together. He will be involved in the child's life." I don't think Drew Barrymore ever officially announced her first pregnancy. Did Gwen Stefani ever confirm her last?
