This looks like it could be a good movie along the lines of GoodFellas. I like films that provide deep insight into flawed characters. I hope it's a nice comeback for him as I think he can be a compelling actor in the right role.

Whitey doesn't have the stereotypical Boston accent, so I'm glad Depp didn't trot one out. Looks like he did a good job judging by the trailer. Benedict Cumberbatch, on the other hand, is all wrong for Billy Bulger. I'm still kind of annoyed that not a single actor who's actually from the Boston area is in this movie. Damn, Benedict Cumberbatch really is in everything.

I am a BC fan but from what I can see from pictures he doesn't resemble the brother much at all & I don't get his casting here. Maybe he's thinking long term to get whatever he can from movies for the moment & settle back in London doing shows. Or contractual obligation? I dunno.

How'd they miss out on hiring noted Bostonian Chris Evans? He was the second best part of The Iceman, after Michael Shannon.

Somehow I've found myself on a small Johnny Depp film kick. Last night after the kids went to bed, I indulged in a late night showing of Benny and Joon. I love that movie so much! Just really sweet and so very 90s. I'm glad I watched it. I remember why I loved Johnny so very much back in the day. His descent into his (presumed) alcoholism makes me sad, especially seeing all the talent he had.
I think he still pulls off good performances, but damn he was pretty and engaging. It would be nice to see him recover from whatever bad place he appears to currently be living.

It seems to me he based his Whitey Bulger on Jack Nicholson. Kind of looks and sounds like him from The Shining era.

Thought I'd finally seen Blow enough times that I didn't need to watch it yet again, but after reading this thread, here I am watching it again. I always love Paul Reubens' first scene, Bobcat Goldthwait's scene when they're testing the purity of the drug, and last but not least, Max Perlich doing what he does best, which is playing a podunk dealer. Will probably follow this up with Benny and Joon.
For those of you from Boston, what do you think of Depp's Boston accent in this movie? I wasn't totally enthralled by it. I've heard worse, but certainly better.

Some breaking news from Australia: Johnny Depp's pet dogs threatened with deportation! ETA The laughy face isn't for the position the poor puppies find themselves in but for the fact this has made national news, Federal Government ministers are weighing in on it and that someone has started an online petition to save the puppies!
