I used her show as a 'flip-to' channel last night during the NCAA Tournament, and ended up catching much of the Orange Bowl episode.
What a case study in using editing on "reality TV" to distort reality. Unfortunately, unlike most of these shows, the event in question was seen live by 75,000 people, on TV by millions more, and discussed the next day by even more people.
So they spend an episode and a half setting up excuses. "They changed a lyric on her!" "She couldn't hear!" "Kelly Clarkson sucked too, and she can actually sing!"
But they still refused to acknowledge the elephant. Only split-seconds of actual audio from the performance. No mention of the boos and catcalls. They specifically left in a bit in which Jessica reassures her: "You were great! You didn't miss a single note! You sounded like an angel, because there was an angel on your shoulder."
From watching the show, you would think that, despite all the obstacles, she turned in an incredible performance that was loved by all.

It's true! My God-son can roll around on the floor singing the "SpongeBob" theme like nobody's business! Kid's got talent I tells ya! He could teach Asslee a thing or two!

shouldn't she have taken singing lessons before she signed a record deal not after. It makes no sense she is passable I guess on a good day. Who gave her a record contract I would love to hear the demo. It couldn't have been any better then.

Her tour stopped here in Cleveland last night (can't wait for the reviews!). I could have sworn she was supposed to play a small arena because I was bit surprised by that when the show was announced, but it was at a big club venue. Did her tour get downsized after all the embarassments?

Apparently she has a new love... she's tainted her hilarious band!

Oh please, knowing how she fakes singing I bet good money she's faking this as well to get some attention after the world dropped her flat ass for not having any talent. She's pathetic because in the last few months there's been no real mention of her. She's already been forgotten except as a joke.
Snuff the candle, it's over. And Jessica's following her down the bowl.

Here, for your reading pleasure, are snips from the review of her Cleveland concert on 3/22:
(not sure how to do the official "quote" thing on this board)
Cleveland Plain dealer, 3/24:
Simpson didn't appear to be faking her vocals, although this doesn't qualify as good news. the feeble singer kept it real alright - real mediocre.
She thanked her fans for sticking with her through her recent ordeals. "The most important thing I've learned is that you don't have to be perfect". No need to worry then, her performance was far from it.
The reviewer also talked about her off-key rendition made him feel sorry for the songs!!! She sold 200 tickets for the show, which is NOT very much, especially for the size of the venue she was in.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually feel sorry for the girl (okay I just threw up a little in my mouth a little). Now I don't feel bad because of all the performance goofs she's had, but I feel bad for her because of her parents. I caught some of her show and her mom does nothing but put her down. They always treat Jessica like she's wonderful and perfect and they are always lovey dovey with her (esp. the dad in a profoundly creepy way) but they hardly acknowledge Ashlee and when they do it's usually negative. I'm surprised she doesn't have serious self-esteem issues.

Well, I can agree with feeling sorry for her because of the family she was born into. However, rather than setting out on her own, trying to make something of herself in the world and finding a place where she could shine (be that as a singer who trained herself and paid her dues- or in some other field all together) she used her family connections to launch herself as a 'Punk Rawk SuperSTAH!'- a field in which she had no natural talent or skills. (Sorry for the run-on).
She not only paid no dues whatsoever to be granted her recording contracts, commercial sponsorships, television show and high profile gigs, but she was completely LAZY in earning her keep. She never took the time to learn how to sing properly (without Pro-Tools) or how to handle technical glitches that come with every performance. I can't feel sorry at all for the backlash that's incurred. She didn't even work at HIDING her lack of talent (Hell, even Milli Vanilli put up a good charade at first).
Nope, no real sympathy here. I'd feel sorry for her growing up in the Simpson family if she hadn't kept herself in it's cozy (albeit creepy) embrace and let Daddy buy her stardom rather than earning it herself.
