Boy, that escalated quickly... ...there was a horse, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident...

Cod save the Queen (I know, this could go on forever)! Nick is apparently going all in - mentally ill Mariah is the angle he's playing. I don't like when these things have to go to lawyers and tabloids, but I also don't have trouble believing that she's not all there (or that any of them are, really). I think it's shitty of him to air shit like this in the press, but I think her "mental state" probably has a lot to do with how her career is going.

She won't be exactly great when the whole divorce thing continues to go down like this :-(
Obviously we have no idea how mentally unstable or not she really is. My take is that she probably threatened to not let him see the babies and this is how he wants to stop that from happening because he thinks that she'll get custody.
Man, what a shame that this has to end this way.

Regarding Mariah's emotional state: This is a woman who suffered a very public emotional breakdown around the time of Glitter and the end of her first marriage. It's possible that she may have another breakdown, especially if the rumors of Mariah and alcohol are true. That said, 1) I hope Mariah doesn't have the type of breakdown with her kids around like the one that caused Britney to be 5150ed, and 2) Nick picked her (as Judge Judy would say)!
If these two had not had any kids, the split would be less complicated. Nick takes his stuff and leaves, Mariah keeps her toys and that would be it more or less.

I actually have no trouble believing that Mariah's mental state would make her an unfit mother. In no way do I believe she's physically harming or neglecting the kids, but there's a certain level of drama, histrionics, insecurity, and immaturity that is horribly damaging for kids, and I can easily see her fitting the bill.
My only points of contention are: like discoprincess said, he picked her, and also the aforementioned drama is probably par for the course in a lot of celeb marriages. Also, Nick surely brings his own damaging dynamics. So to summarize, I don't think it's such a stretch between "insecure diva" and bad mother, but Nick needs to take responsibility for his own choices/actions, and the public airing of the dirty laundry is really bad.

I pretty much assumed that these kids were mostly being raised by nanny/nannies as is the case with most of these rich celebrities. With how often Nick is working, I can't imagine he spends much time with the kids. And Mariah always seemed too self-absorbed to really care about anyone but herself.

I figure it's fine for Mariah to have Monroe whom she may view and groom as her mini-me. I can't picture her wanting to deal with the hard(er) parts of parenthood because they're too unpleasant. (By the way, I'm still surprised she carried #DemBabies herself instead of getting a surrogate. I wouldn't have judged her if she had!)
By the way, I would totally believe it if Nick had stepped out on the marriage, even before a separation-at least emotionally if not physically. Not that I'm portraying Nick as some evil villian; I'm just saying.
ETA: At least she didn't have kids with Tommy.
Mariah had a somewhat chaotic upbringing, right? How could that have affected her?
ETA2: According to some posters on Lipstick Alley, it seems that Mariah had dropped some hints about trouble in paradise with her latest album The Elusive Chanteuse. Have any Greecies listened to the album yet?

What are the rumours about her and alcohol? Is it that she has a problem with alcohol/is an alcoholic? I would not be surprised. I am sure we all remember about 3 years ago how drunk she was at the Golden Globes when Lee Daniels had to take her up the stairs to accept an award and coax her off the stage when she was rambling. There were also rumours about alcohol when she had her breakdown in 2001 after the failure of Glitter. I am not sure if she is mentally unstable (although one breakdown and a rather long stay in a mental health facility at that time may suggest that she is prone to some serious issues), but she is deeply deeply deeply insecure, which we all know. I think part of that is because she has not been coping well with ageing in the business and her decreasing popularity over the years. It is interesting that things have been going badly since she left Tommy Motolla, except for her Emancipation of Mimi album in 2005.

You nailed it. This is exactly how I see it as well. Parenting is by it's nature a selfless endeavor and I can't imagine Mariah could stop having things be all about her long enough to nurture children properly.
