I've been caught and laughed at a few times for bopping in the car along with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." I will own it; that song never fails to lighten my mood. I was a daycamp counselor during college, and one of my best memories is of 120 kids and counselors on their feet and dancing to this song in our common room on a rainy day.

It makes me smile that I'm not the only one who has a camp story that involves this song. Even the priest at the Catholic camp I attended got in on the dance action. Hee!

Inspired by what was posted on the Absurd and Humorous websites thread, I looked up the actress who played Sondra in the Cosby Show on IMDB. I was shocked to find out that Whitney was a finalist for the part, but Sabrina Le Beauf was chosen instead. Has anyone else heard about this? Now I'm trying to picture Nippy as Sandra.

I never knew that either. I do know that they were very serious about getting talented young actors so I'm not surprised Whitney was passed over in favor of an experienced actress. I'm more surprised that she got as far as the final audition.

I thought the story was she was offered the part, but wanted to sing instead. Just like she abandoned the modeling career for singing. I guess back then it was one or the other, unlike now with the "triple threat" JLo.

Behind the Scenes of the Whitney movie with Entertainment Tonight. Yaya's performance looks pretty good from what was shown.

Behind the Scenes of the Whitney movie with Entertainment Tonight. Yaya's performance looks pretty good from what was shown. Angela Bassett is just such a class act. This is her first time directing, but I have high hopes for this movie partly because everything she's said indicates she respects the subject matter and wants to tell her story in a compelling, insightful way. That video made me anxious to see more.

Is it possible that the real reason for not using Whitney's voice was money? They would have to pay a lot to get Arista to sign off on it and of course as they said in the video, those are recorded tracks for the albums. This is focusing on her out of the studio and on stage. Those performances were also copyrighted (like Dick Clark productions or other networks).
What's crazy is that they're mad that they're not using Whitney's voice. Why? Are you going to get a piece of that somehow in royalties? Yet, they have no issue with the film being made in general. And BobbiKristina wanted to have Angela cast her as her mom. Please. She doesn't look enough like Whitney, nor does she have the stage presence. I think that YaYa looks a lot like her after the hair and makeup is put on and Cox does a fantastic job with the 'live' vocals.
I'm anxious for this project, too. And will be checking it out when it airs.

Deborah Cox sounds wonderful, as did Heather Headley in The Bodyguard Musical. It wouldn't have made sense to try to emulate a live performance for the movie using a recorded vocal from 1985. And at least they got Whitney's songs. I seem to remember some VHI movie about Michael Jackson, and they couldn't even get the songs! They had some lame beats that vaguely sounded like MJ's music. BK is a piece of work. She says "when i win my first Grammy and Oscar", but what are you doing to accomplish that? Voice lessons, acting lessons? Still smoking?

I feel sorry for BK, but at the same time I roll my eyes.
