I think what I mostly took issue was to her referring to herself as a "pretty girl." Modesty isn't one of her best virtues. Definitely not. Remember that movie Duets, where she was in a karaoke competition? In an interview someone asked her if she'd always liked to sing. GP said that she and her grandmother used to sing together a lot. She said of the grandmother, "She had a beautiful voice, too." Okay? Something about that "too" as in, "just like me!" The woman just can't say anything that doesn't come out sounding insufferable.

Call me crazy, but wouldn't people look at Gwyneth Paltrow as in "Hey, isn't that the girl who won that Oscar when she was wearing the pink dress?" and not necessarily because she's pretty? And, wouldn't they not look at her when she's in the fat suit, because she didn't look like that girl who won the Oscar when she wore the pink dress? People stare at stars becasue they're stars.

Plus, you can just see Paltrow taking off the fat suit with an air of one having done her duty, thinking "Thank God I can go back to being the pretty one now." There's no sense of learning anything from it.

I don't know how smart the quote is, but I'll give Charlize and Stuart points for (a) recognizing that gays and lesbians are getting screwed over when it comes to marriage and (b) coming up with a great line to throw at the relatives when they start pestering you about getting married:

That sounds like Charlize is co-opting an issue as yet another excuse why she's not getting married. Last month she swore they didn't want to get married because they "don't believe in a piece of paper" blah blah blah, now it's about gay rights. Whatever. They should just break up already.

IMO, in that quote, Charlize sounds more like she's saying, "When hell freezes over," rather than supporting gay rights there. I don't know if I'm getting the wrong vibe from the quote, but that's just how I interpreted it. It offfends me, even though she said she's going to use "that in a positive way", and I'm not even a lesbian trying to get married.

I agree with you guys on the Charlize quote--it's just lame. It's not like she and Stuart are the only people that have ever endured the questioning about marriage or kids. Get a grip.

Here's an old quote from Emily Watson...
Hear that, Gwhiney? That's the sound of a woman who could chew you up and spit you out both as an actress and as a human being.

Thanks for giving me another reason to love Emily Watson. Not only is a GREAT actress (her performance in Breaking the Waves just kills me) but she's insightful and wise.

IMO, in that quote, Charlize sounds more like she's saying, "When hell freezes over," rather than supporting gay rights there. . Exactly what I immediately thought when I read that quote how ever many weeks ago too. She sounded like a person just pissed at getting asked when she's going to get married for the umpteenth time that week. I'm all for weary respnoses to tired questions but why drag a serious and important issue like gay rights and gay marriage into your personal frivolous snarky response? That was plain disrespectful and at the very least just dumb! Very disppointed in you, Charlize. Very disappointed indeed. I thought she was smart with a level head on her shoulders and not prone to saying dumb shit or just speaking with her brain disengaged for the hell of it...........well with that statement obviously not. I will have to accept I must have been wrong about her and too generous in my initial estimation of her. That was a bonafide dumbass thing to say on record.
