Estelle Parsons? She does work! She won an Oscar (Supporting Actress, Bonnie & Clyde, 1967) early in her career, and while she hasn't ever been a big star, she's worked pretty steadily (in movies and in film) both before and after Roseanne. Her latest is an HBO film, Empire Falls, with Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Ed Harris, Helen Hunt, Aidan Quinn, Robin Wright Penn, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
She's always been a character actress rather than a lead, so her work has been varied. Her career is actually the kind of career you see a lot from UK actors...some film, some TV, some stage. They have a kind of familiarity and steady work, but basically a comfy lower-tier kind of fame than your standard A List movie stars. It seems like a good kind of acting life: some accolades from your peers, varied but steady work, no paparazzi lurking in your driveway...best of all worlds!
I like Goodman, too. Especially the stuff he's done with the Coen brothers. Sad that he's not had more work; he owns the parts the takes, and he's such a force of nature on screen, bigger than life in more ways that one.
Let's see, who can I offer up to the altar of You're Not Famous Anymore? How about Emilio Estevez? Where has he been? Aside from the occasional Mighty Ducks sequel, the man only works every couple of years. It's hard to remember that back in the '80s and early '90s, he (along with his Brat Pack compadres; paging Judd Nelson) could open a movie. Not so much anymore.
Also, I don't know if I'd consider DeNiro "not famous anymore," just not living up to his early work. The fact that he chooses terrible projects and seems to be parodying himself most of the time these days doesn't negate the fact that he's Robert DeNiro: Bona Fide Acting Legend. Same thing happened to Brando and Orson Welles; they never lost legendary status, either, even when they were making dreck like The Island of Dr. Moreau or shilling wine on TV ads. I think there are some actors who can survive decades of bad projects or inaction and be considered famous (or at least untouchable, in terms of their reputation).
Speaking of MIA A-List actors, what the hell happened to Warren Beatty's career? Another Oscar winner with a long track record of being a box office draw, but he takes years between projects. Is he even working on anything these days? He hasn't worked since 2000 or so...even geezers like Paul Newman work more than he does! Redford is another actor who doesn't work a lot, but at least he runs the Sundance Institute in his spare time, right? I don't think anyone's considering these guys "not famous anymore," but they certainly don't work as much as their earlier careers might've warranted.

Bonsai, I love Geena Davis! She has little kids, so maybe that's why she wanted to do Stuart Little. And she was doing all that archery for a while, too, so that could explain the absence. I just checked IMDB and it says that she has a tv series coming up called "Commander in Chief," so hopefully she's not done being famous yet. Hugh Laurie ended up with "House," after all, so maybe playing Stuart's parents brings luck to actors.

May I add Star Jones? She acts like she's God's Greatest Gift and she really wasn't famous in the first place. I mean co-hosting The View and kissing up to B.W. every chance she gets does not a famous person make.

Seems like quite a few stars do kid's movies when they have little kids. I remember reading Cuba Gooding did Snow Dogs after he procreated, so his kids could watch a movie w/ their dad in it that survived the V chip.
See, I guess that's what I mean. So, it's sort of the opposite of what this thread is about - Celebs Who Should Be More Famous Than They Are. I loved her on Roseanne, but I never knew she did other things, b/c she's low-key.
I second Emilio Estevez. Man, he was the best Billy the Kid. Even Men At Work was decent (golf clap, anyone?) Now he's making movies about murderous porn directers w/ bad combovers that only gets shown on Cinemax at 1am. What's next? The role of Barkley in Sesame Street on Ice?
Tony Danza has also disappeared. I mean, yeah, he always played the dumb Italian/Brooklyn native, but he had that niche for himself and he ran w/ it. He had that stint on Family Law, but he played a serious guy, so no one noticed him.
Also, I can't believe no one has mentioned Corey Haim. He was the shit in the 80's. The two Coreys, man! Feld-dog and the Haimster! Unfortunately, even though he had a name for himself in his heyday, I don't think he could ever crawl out of the bad PR hole he's fallen into. Too many drugs and murder attempts.

He was great on Curb Your Enthusiasm!..
He was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2001 for Becker!

But...but...Tony Danza has a daily talk show! We might all wish he'd disappeared, but nope, he's there. The show is syndicated; check your local listings. Funny Tony Danza story. My sister and her family had been living in London for a few years, and when they moved back to the US (late '97-early'98, I think?), we got into a discussion of the things that had changed in popular culture since she'd been gone. She said the biggest shocker to her was finding out that Tony Danza--of all people!-- had been nominated for an Emmy (for a role on The Practice) and was getting rave reviews for his role (opposite Kevin Spacey and Paul Giamatti) in a revival of O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh on Broadway! And y'know, I was kind of shocked, too.
In the same boat as Corey Haim (and I missed the whole "two Coreys" thing back in the day...I was too old to notice or care, I think) would be Edward Furlong, yeah? Substance abuse seems to have taken the both of them down the road of straight-to-video crapfests and appearances on episodes of True Hollywood Story and their bleary-eyed mugshots being posted on The Smoking Gun.
Another formerly high-profile actress who seems to be MIA much of the time? Rosanna Arquette. She works, sometimes, but almost always in quirky little cameos in indie films. Who did she piss off, I wonder?

How about Scott Baio? What's he doing now? He made a fairly good transition out of a little kid role (Chachi) to slightly more grown-up role (Charles) pretty well. Then he did that Murder-She-Wrote-In-A-Hospital show old people watched. I bet he's jealous of Jason Bateman.

Apparently that's why Johnny Depp made Pirates of the Caribbean. Hmm ... Snow Dogs versus PoTC. I know which one I'd rather see (over and over, and own on DVD. Ahem).
I feel oddly good when a former has-been is famous once again, like Teri Hatcher. I always liked her (although those Radio Shack ads were godawful).

Teri Garr used to be pretty popular. Remember her? She was in movies w/ Elvis, the Monkees, Sonny and Cher, Gene Wilder, and George Burns. She had parts in Close Encounters, Mr. Mom, The Black Stallion, and Tootlsie. Now, she has tiny parts in crap like Dumb and Dumber, Michael, Casper Meets Wendy, Half a Dozen Babies and Aloha, Scooby Doo. Man, multiple sclorosis sucks, poor girl.
I miss hearing Carol Kane's squeaky voice more often. I can still hear her screeching, "Latka!"

BagofBones -- I think Teri Garr has a serious disease; MS, maybe? I have a feeling that she's not physically up for demanding roles but on the other hand, needs to work. Thus, you see her in these throw-away parts that make you think, "What the hell...? This is the woman who sang, "Roll in the hay, roll in the hay!" in Young Frankenstein.
As for Carol Kane... I've got to say, I'd be happy never to ever have to hear that annoying shriek again.
Hey, is it too soon to put Britney Spears in the You're Not Famous Anymore thread? Well, I guess it is too soon, since she's talked about and photographed so relentlessly. But I'd love to see the day where she fits right in here.
PS -- Oops! BagofBones -- I read your post too quickly and just realized that you did, indeed, acknowledge Teri Garr's disease.
