My first inclination is to trundle to my own blog and post an entry titled "Hal Niedzviecki Thought He Farted One Time And It Turned Out To Be Poo" but I'm kinda guessing that 8,000,000 other bloggers will be doing the same thing and, hey, my blog is sooo different from everyone else's, right? Anyway, the piece above is a classic case of someone from Old Media pretending to know about the nuances of Web Journalism simply because he knows how to punch search terms into Google and click on results. And he visits blogs, too, which totally makes him an expert. But a big part of his beef is that bloggers will say an unkind word concerning emerging artists (and their work) in blogs. Funny that he should be making this plea in a newspaper. Right beside... book, television, music, theatre and film reviews. Hal Niedzviecki will rue the day he wrote that piece. More than the day he farted and poo came out.

Argh, that article made me hate the guy instantly. To use all the dumb-teen-speak, yes, he's an old fashioned dinosaur who just doesn't get technology. But here's the thing I think he's overlooking the most. He says Any kind that makes it possible technologically. He thinks that mediums have morals, that they have sets of rules attached to them. He would definitely say I'm a yuppie who's too cynical, but I disagree with this to the extreme. I think the reason printed pieces don't exert such casual invasions of privacy is because it is technologically impossible in print. It's not instantaneous, unlike blogs, and papers limit their contributors to a select few, unlike blogs - everyone can have as many as he/she wants to. So this sentence alone makes me disagree with him on more than young vs. old, technophile vs. technophobe level. It's a philosophical distinction. He thinks people play nice because they want to and all bloggers are mean. I think people play nice all the time when they cannot do otherwise, and blogs allow them to actually be more true to themselves than printed word does. ETA: Cliches are the new black, IMHO. I feel self-conscious about the line below my avatar now. To my defence, I created it when everyone seemed to have his/her pet as the avatar, so it was relevant at the time. For example, had I created a different avatar a bit later, I would've written "fae is the new black". And it was tongue-in-cheek to begin with, I was parodying how all the media used it!

Eek, what happened to trainwrecks.net? It appears to be gone. How am I going to keep with with net weirdos without trainwrecks?

On my day off the other day, I read this whole blog called One D at a Time (NSFW), written by someone who calls herself "slutmachine". She's an unashamed slut and I love it. I found the link from fourfour, who I also love.

Just a warning, while the blogs puretrash mentioned are entertaining, they're not really work safe. (Found it out the hard way)

Oops, sorry. Maybe I should have mentioned what the "D" stands for. I'll edit.

I think Perez has lost this round against Clay Aiken in his pathetic attempts to *out* Clay. Tool.

Anyone read Dooce? Anyone else find her just totally boring? I really don't understand the appeal of her blog. At. All. And faux self-deprecation bugs. Especially when it comes in an ironic techie/yuppie package. I will admit a weakness for Xiaxue, though and she is not to everyone's taste. My best friend wants to throat-kick her.
