We finally got a PS3. Is it normal to have to download games the first time you play them? It's been nearly 45 minutes since I put in Heavy Rain. It's annoying.
ETA: Wah! My controller won't work. I'm finally alone (Hubby is on trip with LittlestCatHead) and can play a game my daughter can't see and the controller won't work. I want to cry.

MrsCatHead, yeah, that's normal for it to take forever to load the first time. And you've probably figured it out by now, but I think you have to use the right controller instead of the left one as the "main" one when you're playing by yourself. I'm not sure though. My nephew is the PS3 expert in the family. I'm more of a PC & iPhone gamer, myself, although he's lobbying hard for me to get a PS3 so he can bring his games when he comes over. He loves playing first person shooters with me because I suck at them and he consistently kicks my ass.

Yeah, PS3 and X360 games will often write large amounts of data to the systems' hard drive now the first time you play so that loading screens will be shorter when you're actually playing. My PS3 only has a 40GB hard drive so it doesn't take too many games to fill that up!
I'm about 80% complete on Heavy Rain and I gotta say, it is one hell of an immersive game. I accidentally read a major spoiler (grumble grumble) but despite that, it is fantastic. I can understand the complaints that it isn't really a game but more of an "interactive video novel" but I don't care. Besides, my twitch skills seriously suck so it's nice to play something like this.

As someone who loves dumb mindless violent video games, can I please mention how much I am loving Marvel vs. Capcom 3? This is a sequel that has improved by an order of magnitude over its predecessor. Deadpool, Iron Man and She-Hulk are actually funny! They brought in some old-school Capcom characters like Amaterasu and Arthur! The Devil May Cry characters kick all kinds of ass! The makers clearly put a lot of work into this one.
Yes, I am a giant nerd.

Yes, I am a giant nerd. I'm glad to hear that. I just ordered that title for my library (we have a circulating video game collection for Wii, XBox 360, and PS3). I'd just like to bitch at how hard it is to find cool games for the Xbox and the PS3 that aren't rated M. Right now, we're only ordering E, E10, or T games so I don't have to deal with the pearl clutchers we can have a collection appropriate for most all ages and most of the best and highest-rated games are M.

So... Skyrim. I'm playing my second character and still discovering areas I never found with my first Level 60+ character. Which alternately makes me smack myself and stand in awe of Bethesda for creating such a richly detailed world. I can entertain myself for hours at a time just running along the roads and having random encounters...

Any Elder Scrolls players here? Microsoft just bought ZeniMax for 7.5 BILLION dollars, and by extension, Bethesda Softworks. And they are not wrong... I've been a Playstation person from the beginning but I would go Xbox for Elder Scrolls 6. At least I won't have to make that decision for another half decade ( ).
