Someone just used the word "folks" 4 times in one short work email. I've tried and I can't hear "folks" without assuming I'm being condescended to. What is wrong with the word "people" or, in context of this email: colleagues, participants, speakers, researchers, students, etc. Or even, comrades, friends, enemies...

It sounds like this is not how your work email was using it, but I know my sister is on a personal campaign to replace "guys" with "folks" in her vocabulary. Of course, when you can be more specific (e.g., "kids", "colleagues", "ladies", etc.) that's preferable.

I just learned yesterday that the word is "kerfuffle" and not kerfLuffle" as I've thought my entire life. I have no idea where I came up with my version, but it was a bit mind-blowing to discover that it was wrong.

Back when the nuns ruled my world, “b” was the only answer that avoided doing penance (‘twas the 70s, and they had retired the ruler).

Back when the nuns ruled my world, “b” was the only answer that avoided doing penance (‘twas the 70s, and they had retired the ruler). I feel like option b is old school, like 2 spaces after a period and other things that are no longer preferred. I personally go with option c.
