I'm a bit cynical about George, but I thought it was a fine response. I don't think celebs should dignify every little rumor with a response, but that was a plain hatchet job on his soon-to-be in-laws. If you're going to draw the line, that's a good place to do it.

I love George, but I'm becoming increasingly over this engagement and I can't figure out why. I think the media is getting a little 'Second Coming of Kate Middleton' with the coverage on Amal. Sure it's exciting that George is finally settling down and his bride to be is an interesting and often fashionable person. But they ain't Royalty... heck they ain't even Kimye. I think the media is trying to make it a bigger story than it needs to be and so the coverage- it bugs.

Girly Ghoul, funny that you should mention royalty, because I was just now thinking this match has to be giving Mohamed al-Fayed flashbacks to what might have been.

I was pretty offended by that article, which is why I linked it here and complained about it. That being said, George has a way of getting up on his high horse in situations like this and being all How DARE You!! that makes him sound a bit arrogant. So Amal's family isn't Druze then? Oh well. It's a pretty amazing religion, and I'm glad the Daily Mail got me to googling about it anyway. Amal not being Druze doesn't jibe with the other article I linked from the London Evening Standard. Even if she doesn't closely follow the rules of the faith, she would still be a Druze because it's a genetic, generational thing. Is the Standard another unreliable tabloid? For crying out loud, are there ANY reliable sources besides the BBC that come out of the UK? The Standard had a direct quote from Amal's grandmother. So is that made up? I'm confused.

Apropos of nothing, one thing that has always interested me is the fact that hardly anyone knows anything about his sister. She's never photographed, rarely mentioned. Doesn't she have kids? They're his nieces/nephews. I'm sure he takes care of them. Or for all I know they don't speak at all. I have no idea what she looks like.
In this day and age, given how famous he is, I am truly amazed how we never see or hear from her. I'm sure she's like "I'm not famous, leave me alone" but her brother is a HUGE star. You'd think maybe you'd see her at a premiere or something. I'm really impressed that she's been able to keep such a low profile.

The Daily Mail "family reunion" story identified a woman as his sister in one of the photos... Here--the first picture, in the red t-shirt. Until that story, I seriously had no idea he had any siblings. Apparently the New York Daily News talked to her once a few years ago--the piece answers some of your questions. ETA: Just discovered that the Daily Mail photos came from the Rosemary Clooney House facebook page. ETAA: And here's a picture of George, his niece, and his sister in an article about his nephew being an extra in Ides of March. Okay. I'll stop cyberstalking George Clooney's relatives now.

It sounds like my relationship with my brother. We get on fine, but our lives are very different.

Lots of famous people have siblings we know nothing about and rarely (if ever) see. I have no idea what Kevin Costner or Chris Pine or Leonardo DiCaprio's siblings look like or have been up to in life, for example. I know he's from a legacy family, but he's really the only person of note from his Clooney generation.

George continues his tirade against Daily Mail because their apology wasn't satisfactory to him.
Okay...I've lost track of the point he was making. There were named sources, including Amal's grandmother, in the London Evening Times, so it's not liked the entire story was pulled out of thin air. In the end it doesn't matter whether Amal is technically Druze or Muslim or what religion she may or may not be; what matters is that the Mail implied violence with relation to both the Muslim and Druze religions. That should be the point, and it's already been made.
How ridiculous is it that George is whining about unnamed sources when he and his publicist constantly use that little trick to shape his public persona? I'd love to know the name of the asshole who said that Amal was "at his level" or the unnamed source who made the hilarious statement "He likes a woman with brains and class." Sure these are harmless things, but still, show us your sources!!

George never used to bother me much, but now I wish he'd shut up.
