I think the difference between Amal and Luciana is that Matt Damon has always refused to use his personal life as part of his image. We dont even know his daughters' names or what they look like. George Clooney on the other hand tied Kanye for mos obnoxious wedding of the year. If Matt Damon had wanted to make Luciana into a more interesting person to match his awesome self People magazine would have obliged and Luciana could have been the most interesting barista Argentina ever birthed. I don't think she's boring, I simply don't know enough about her to judge either way and that's by choice. Their choice. On the other hand, I'm being told every day that Mrs. Clooney is this amazing woman, capable of being so many things at once I'm surprised her genetic make up isn't being tested in some lab to make sure she's human. And I have yet to read a single interview and know her opinion on subjects she isn't being paid to share with us. Not that I care because the media circus has alteady turned me off big time from both, but at least I could understand what the hoopla was about.
Her fashion sense was terrible pre marriage. It's greatly improved since she became a Clooney but that could very well be due to a stylist. She's already manufactured that not even her style is hers anymore. And the thing is, she doesn't need to be because she's not a celebrity. But then how can George show her off if no one cares? Hence the daily updates to build up interest. If you repeat the same thing over and over, sooner or later people will accept it as the truth, regardless of its merit. That's how the Kardashians built a fortune. They understood that building up hype makes them look desirable and they did this long enough and persistenly enough that demand eventually followed. Is the world so in demand of news about Amal when we had no idea she existed a year ago or is she building up hype with the media push so that we become interested? How's this strategy different than that of a Kardashian?

I think it is great that Matt married just a regular gal, Luciana was like many single moms trying to make a living. Talk about hitting the jackpot with Matt, financially I mean. I don't like Damon, but I admire how low key he keeps his private life, so much so that his wife and children can walk around without being harassed.
As for Clooney, this whole wedding is still a bit confusing to me, still surprising he had this huge wedding and sold the pictures.

In some ways, the interest in Amal right now is probably not that much different than the attention that was given to Carolyn Bessette when she married JFK, Jr. Her wedding dress sparked a big trend and her style was quintessential late-90s minimalism and completely copied by Gwyneth. I see what you did there. Carolyn Bessette's image also probably fed any media attention directed toward her. It seemed as if she was seen as the modern version of Jackie O. (her mother-in-law) in terms of stylishness - Camelot for the upcoming new millenium (except Carolyn and JFK, Jr. didn't actually get to see the new millenium). In contrast, I don't think Caroline Kennedy's husband got as much attention, although I know who he is. Actually Caroline was a lot more private and kept out of the pap's eye more than JFK, Jr. did. I don't think the media has been as interested in Matt Damon's love life as it has been in George Clooney's (or for that matter in the love life in Matt's BFF Ben Affleck).

Funny, I was kind of comparing her to Carolyn Bessette in my little brain, too. However, Clooney WISHES. JFKjr was the hottest man ever. Ever.
I'm like, genetically predisposed to love him.
Hope these crazy kids make a go of it!

The Clooneys held another wedding reception last night. This one was in London. Amal's mom spoke to the Telegraph about the reception.

Since I have been spending much more time than usual with my own Middle Eastern family lately, I feel obligated to say that I wouldn't read much into the "we're famous now" comment. I feel like the immediate reaction here (understandably!) is to read that and think famewhore, but to me it reads as culturally normal expressiveness and hyperbole. I realize I am jumping the gun in posting this, but I have been on this forum long enough to see a famewhore accusation a mile away

Why does everyone look so goddamn miserable in those DM pics? They all look like they're headed to a funeral.

I don't think it has to do with culture, I just think she enjoys the fame/attention.

I'll give mom a pass for a little bit longer. It's George's PR team that decided to have the famewhore supernova wedding, which ratcheted up the attention on them. I seriously don't want to hear from these two for a while. They need to go underground. I've always been neutral on George but the wedding tipped it into the negative with me, so he'd better reign in that ego for a while until the Wedding! of! the! Century!!! becomes old news.
