To me it's not so much that she's an attorney, but that she's a civilian and poses like this. IMHO spouses who aren't in showbiz should stick to the sidelines or just pose with the famous spouse.

She bugs.
And I do think there's such a thing in the everyday life for both men and women as dressing your age and success level.
She dresses like a 22 year old/Lindsay Lohan. There are beautiful dresses out there for 28 year old that would look better.

I was going say, she's 28? I thought she looks 40. I googled it, and she's 38. Old enough to have her imaginary daughter wear that dress to her senior prom, and the dress be too young for the prom. More like the sweet sixteen party. Nope, too young for that too.
Actually, it reminds me of young Ukrainian dancers I've seen. They wear these short dresses that bell out just like that, and on a five yo it is adorable. But as the girls get older and their legs get longer, it looks really odd. Almost ridiculous. Like a stork in a tutu.

I was just thinking when I saw the pic that the dress would look lovely on my sixteen year old stepdaughter. I agree that the dress just appears too young for her, but I don't think that it is sexist or anything to say so. She's doing what she wants, and seems fine. I think the dress is too young, but she is lovely.

It's a very cute dress. She is not a cute woman. She is sophisticated and beautiful, but not cute.
It doesn't suit her.
But sometimes we feel like dressing against type, and the movie looks cute and silly (in a coen brothers type way), so maybe she rolled with the dress. It's the MUGGING for the cameras. It reads as desperate for attention, and for a woman as accomplished, smart, successful, beautiful and seemingly perfect as her, the desperation is weird and off putting.
(But it can show us that everybody is flawed in their own way.)

Also, it was her husband's premiere. It seems that she could have dialed it back a little. The press goes apeshit over Jennifer Aniston, but it seemed like she made an effort not to steal her husband's thunder and turn The Leftovers events into the Jennifer Aniston show. It's just so weird.

I think George wants Amal to call attention to herself to forward the narrative that he's a great guy with an awesome chick. He's always been an arm candy kind of guy, and being married to an intelligent woman isn't going to change that.

It's a silly dress, yes, but I feel like if Amal was all Carolyn Bessette in her choices - elegant clothes, half smiles, ignoring the cameras - then she'd be accused of being aloof and not fun and thinks she's too good to play the game. Sometimes girls just wanna have fun.

That's a very good point too, Mugs.
