He broke Kelly Preston's heart? Awesome.

Yeah, I concentrate on that part of the story too. Rather than the bit where he liked her enough to buy a house with her and live together. Every time I think about Geroge and his skanky girlfriend choices my love for him falters a bit more ... Anyone heard any press about his film Syriana ?

The woman George married seemed very non-skanky and like a regular woman--definitely not an underwear model or soft-porn star like he goes for now. But it seems when they got divorced, she was as mean and vindictive about it as she could possibly be. She not only went after all of his money (and he didn't have much at the time), but she took stuff just because she knew it meant a lot to him, like heirlooms and things. It left him very bitter and that's why he'd never, ever get legally hitched again.

I'd be bitter too. Think he'll lay off starring in movies and just direct due to his health?

Yea, I remember she even tried to take his beloved pet. I don't remember if she got it or not.

Really? Ouch. That sucks. Taking away someone's pet-talk about vindictive.

Talia Balsam was the ex-wife and the split was certainly acrimonious but I never got the impression that Talia actually broke George's heart. From what I've read, Talia was vindictive during the divorce because George couldn't keep it in his pants during the marriage. To that end, she went after him financially and also tried to get Max the pig in the settlement. Talia's attitude was that Max, a gift from Kelly Preston, got more affection and attention from George than she did so she wanted to hurt him in any way she could. Since the divorce, however, Talia and George have made up - he cast her in K-Street and George is also on good terms with her new husband. George has also publicly spoken about what a rotten husband he was - I kind of took that as him acknowledging that he behaved really badly and that Talia's own nastiness was a product of that.
And yes, Talia certainly seems to go against type for George. She's no skank but she can look, well, homely (TM Kimberley Stewart). I don't think IMDB have a photo of her on their site but for those of you who watch Without A Trace, she played Jack's vindictive ex-wife (is there a theme here?).

So... I missed Letterman the other night but a friend who did see it said George was on, and talking about his back condition. Apparently something serious...
Did anyone see this?
Is it related to his ruptured disc last year?
And hands up if you DON"T wish you could nurse him back to health !

I was flipping back and forth between Letterman and Leno so I didn't catch the entire interview. The back condition seemed really serious though I can't really remember any details except that he said it got to the point where he had spinal fluid running out of his nose. Ewww.
He also talked about his investment in that Las Vegas Hotel. And it seems as though his film Good Night and Good Luck is really good. It was a favorite at Venice.

He never had a ruptured disc; that's just the story he gave to the press. See the previous page of this thread -- he had something called "sagging brain", something to do with his spinal cord slowly collapsing and his brain changing position.
