I was just coming to post about this. Unbelievable. The show is about the two of them--they're *partners*. And it wasn't even the standard 78%; it was HALF. Good for Gillian for demanding equal pay but I'm outraged that she had to do it.

As part of the whole pay inequality/race issue with the Oscars, I just read that for this new season, Fox initially offered Gillian Anderson HALF the salary they were giving Duchovny.HALF. For SCULLY. In THE X-FILES. Not talking about when the show first started out and she was a brand new 23 year old baby with little experience and Duchovny had the storied career (consisting of, uh, The Red Shoe Diaries and a tiny part on Twin Peaks) coming into it, we're talking about this season that starts airing on Sunday. Fox eventually woke up and gave her the same pay at Duchovny (I'm assuming after she laughed in their faces), but why on earth did they think they could even go there? Seriously. I can't think of another show where the two leads are absolutely completely equal. I actually like Scully a little more and think that Gillian Anderson is a better actor. But you can't do the show without both Mulder and Scully as partners. As the last two seasons showed. It is really insulting that they tried to lowball Scully. Anyways I am looking forward to the Darin Morgan episode. I've heard really good things about that one.

I hope (paraphrasing Uncle Stevie) she had two words for them, and not "Happy Birthday."

I don't know the proper emoji, so I'll just say--whoa. Rocky start but the last 20 minutes sucked me in, hard. Anyone else?

Squeeeee!!!! Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it has legs. I'm looking forward to more!
Seriously, when the opening credits started rolling, I had to suppress a squeal. I felt like a 12-year-old girl at a boy band concert.
Random comments:
Skinner has aged better than Mulder.
Cigarette Smoking Man!!!
Scully's hair: could've been redder. Looked a little too peachy to me.
Where's Scully and Mulder's kid? (Was that in the last movie? I missed the second movie and the end of the series.)
Non-X-Files-specific comment: I don't have cable so I watch what I can watch on my laptop. I went over to my parents' house for this, though. Since I"m used to watching stuff on my laptop, I'm always a little startled when I see things in HD. To me, stuff in HD looks fake--almost like soap-opera-level obvious staginess. I think I preferred the slight graininess of film to the overly slick of digital HD. I noticed it tonight with the X-Files, but I've noticed it on other stuff too.
Closing random thought: Early on in the episode, I thought about how out-of-place aliens seem now with our culture. I don't know what it was about the 90s that aliens made great commentary for, but everything now is zombies and the undead. I actually stopped and thought about it during an early commercial break. But then if they didn't do a good job turning all of that on its head to make it speak to current conditions--terrorism, environmental catastrophe, etc. I thought they did a pretty good job!

I'm still mulling it over but it seemed odd that they were all speaking in the show catch phrases. "The truth is out there", "Believe the lie" etc, etc. Came across as a bit to kitchsy. I loved Dana though, she looks fantastic and is how I imagined her character to evolve. So did Skinner. Now that I think about it...so did Mulder. lol I agree with your aliens out of place comment, prisma.

God. My asshole local Fox affiliate aired the episode at 7:00 PM tonight. Not something I knew when I tuned in at 10:00 like all the advertisements said it would be on. I hope this shows up on Hulu tomorrow.
