I didn't watch the premiere, but I thiiiiink last season Peter's powers were changed (after getting depowered all together and getting them back, or something) so that he can now only "synch" the last power he was exposed to. Like, if he's with Nathan and flies, he will have to abandon the flight in order to adopt, say, Matt's mindreading. I think. It's been awhile, but I remember thinking that they did something because Peter was so ridiculously overpowered and they needed to limit him.

Not sure about Peter's powers, but I'm generally glad to see the characters back in their 'real' lives and not bonding to form the Superfriends (yet) this season. The scene with Claire's roommate was pretty gross though. Still, Robert Knepper in eyeliner is must-see tv for me, I gotta say.

I guess what I'm confused about is, in the recaps I've read, Peter has been using his powers to save people on a one-on-one level (which is what I thought the show was really missing) but if his powers work the way we both remember them working, how could he "use his powers"? Is he meeting a super on every job he does, or is he just using the last power he's copying? I guess I could watch the episode and find out myself, but Heroes is a cruel mistress, it will only let me down if I get sucked back in.

Heh, that's kind of why I didn't watch the premiere. I can't be hurt again!
(Of course I should probably not be hanging around this thread, then.)

Still, Robert Knepper in eyeliner is must-see tv for me, I gotta say. You've got that right! I only watched a little bit, and it was because of T-Bag - oops, Samuel. Damn, he really did look kinda hot in all that guyliner! But then there were these two dudes trying to rescue a cat, and I lost interest after the cat was OK.

I watched the whole thing, but it wasn't the most gripping of season openers. I kept pausing it do other things.

I didn't watch the whole episode (I tuned out around mid-season 2), but I did see the first 10 minutes or so before I stopped because I had something else I needed to do. Did they change Peter's powers again? I've been trying to read recaps of the episode but I can't seem to find that information. If they changed Peter's powers, how does it work now? I've seen all the episodes to date. Peter's powers were stolen by his father last season. Peter ended up taking the power formula to get his power back. Last we were shown, he can only take on one power at a time, and he can only take on a power after touching the person whose power he is copying. There are instances of him touching people without getting their powers, so he seems to be able to control that too. It really was a nice change. I just hope they don't change it again because it works much better this way. He was too powerful and stupid to tolerate, in my opinion, when he was running around absorbing every power under the sun. He mainly went along with Bennet so he could snag super-speed and save more people on the job. I like that they showed him thinking ahead like that. I think the premiere set things up nicely, but I am withholding final judgment. This show seems to have good ideas and set things up well, but the writers have terrible execution. I read spoilers, so I was dreading what I had read about Matt being haunted by Sylar, but it worked much better than I thought it would. I liked seeing Matt being eaten alive by his own insecurities as pointed out by Sylar, who I hope is not really Sylar but a manifestation of Matt's own self-hatred. It certainly makes the character more complex, which I would welcome. Claire's story was more tolerable that usual. She doesn't seem too whiny yet. The carnival people could be really interesting too, although I don't like what I've seen of Lydia the tattoo-lady's power. More psychic artwork, writers? No thanks. Hiro is still a freaking moron. I have grown to hate him. He is a man-child. And I am really annoyed that the writers brought back more time travel and timeline changing. Making sense in this area is one of the writers' weaknesses, I'm afraid. I liked what they have done with Tracy. Granted, she was introduced under ridiculous circumstances last season, but she has a lot of potential. I still don't know if I like her being able to turn into water (seems a little too comic book-y), but at least they are showing her using her power competently. She's pretty badass too. I liked her quick fight with Edgar and her attempt on Bennet's life. I also liked her chemistry with Bennet, but I only in a partners/colleagues sense, not a romantic one. The writers need to stay away from romance.

Rescuing the show from page 3!
I really liked this ep. Characters I liked, no major deaths (yet)... Anyone else think it hit the right beats?

I was actually kind of annoyed by this episode, mainly because they've got Sylar being so easily led to do bad stuff. The carny guy tells him to go see the police guy and he goes. I know he's supposed to be all confused, but considering how horrified he supposedly was after learning about all the murders and violence, I didn't get why he would then go confront the cop. Also, the seeing sounds power is the most ridiculous to date. I can't see how this is remotely useful. If it's supposed to have a benefit, I wish they'd show it soon, otherwise it seems so completely pointless. Eh, I think I just don't like the carnival storyline, so that influenced me negatively. Just like the carny guy on Silar, I guess. I like the deaf woman so far, I just want to see some purpose for her storyline. I guess Peter and Daddy Hornrims had the best storyline in this episode.

I think this season has been OK. At least it's better than last season, in my opinion.
I have, however, lost all tolerance for Hiro. I mean, he wasn't acting too childish this episode, but I still wanted to punch him in the face. It has just gotten to the point where I don't even want to see him. I like Emma, but her scenes with Hiro were uninteresting to me. I have tired of Hiro giving people lectures about being a hero and having destiny. He's a fool.
Same thing with Sylar. Boohoo, you're a killer. Wasn't he emo enough last season? I know the circumstances are different this season, but it's still the same tired crap. If he's just going to cry every season about being a killer, he needs to either stop killing people or just find a way to kill himself and go away.
Those carnies are morons for toying with Sylar. I kind of hope he kills them now.
On the bright side, they brought up Claire's magic blood. I am a stickler for continuity, and people forgetting about her blood has been pissing me off. At least they explained why they couldn't use it on Hiro.
