*gasp!* I loved Oz. He was probably my favourite. Definitely one of mine. They did him a huge disservice letting his story line just sort of peter out. He got pheremone fever and ran off with a she-wolf, right? A little more complicated, but not much. After he killed the she-wolf (who was about to attack his precious Willow), he decided to pack up and run off to learn how to "channel his inner wolf" or some other such pretentious psychobabble. He came back after Will hooked up with Tara, having tamed the inner wolf, but not as much as he thought. He tried to attack Tara (because she smelled like his Willow) and Will had to choose between the two. (Courtesy the endless late-night reruns of Buffy Space used to offer. )

*gasp!* I loved Oz. He was probably my favourite. In fact, I think his departure heralded the downturn the show took. I have little to no interest in the university years (although I of course kept watching until the bitter, bitter end). I was so pissed off when they paired Willow up with Tara. That was so dumb. It's not that Oz was unlikable in a Dawn way, it's just that the character was written as too saintly. Nobody's that friggin' sensitive and it seemed that for most of the time he was on the show his purpose was just to stare wistfully at Willow as if she were the last pork chop on the plate. When, of course, he wasn't actually ya know telling us just how wonderful Willow was. It grated. Willow was a nice enough girl, but c'mon. I also thought the 'cool' was just wayyy overdone and forced. It could also be that I usually just don't warm up to characters who are added-on well into a show's run. They feel like interlopers, and of course take up time that really would be better spent with Spike and Giles. Or even Spike as Xander's Mom's basement roommate. Also wasn't a fan of the lesbian Willow storyline. It was just too sudden. It didn't feel organic, but more like a public service message: "Lesbians and witches are people, too." Yeah. They're also sometimes boring and power mad, apparently. Got it. As lifeless as Tara was, how did they even know she'd died when she died?

BANGEL forever!!!!
Sorry just had to say it for old time's sake. But yes, I was and still am, a die hard Buffy/Angel shipper and darn proud of it. It's so weird because I didn't start watching Buffy until I was 26 years old. I caught the very end of Amends and I was hooked from then on. It was some kind of holiday marathon on F/X and the next day they started from the beginning. Meanwhile in primetime they were still in season 5. So I watched both seasons unfold at the same time. Being as ancient as I was I still preferred Bangel to Spuffy. Even though Bangel was considered more immature and a high school romance.
Up until season 6 I loved Spike as a character more then Angel. But as soon as they decided to have Spike fall for Buffy the character changed. And not for the better. I like my Spike funny, dark, dangerous and evil. I loved Drusilla and Spike. With Buffy he was a bit too whipped and sweet. The writers took it a little too far.
Never cared much for the Buffy character. Cordelia is far and away my favorite. Followed by Angel, Anya, Drusilla, Wesley, Illyria, and Lilah.
As brilliant as BTVS was I still feel that Angel was the better show overall. They ended it at just the right time so it never got the chance to completely fall apart the way BTVS did. In fact, I think Angel is quite possibly the most underrated show ever made. For every brilliant BTVS episode I could give you an Angel episode that was three times better. And David Boreanaz was seriously underrated.

Even though Dawn was often annoying, her introductory episode still stands out to me ("Dawwwwn??!"). She seemed legitimately annoying, in a teenage kind of way. And though all the key stuff got tiresome, it was probably matched by 'The Gift' as my fave Season 5 episode. Nice, neat bookends.
And Glory--that actress was perfect. I thought she was actually an asylum escapee they'd dosed up and shoved into a red dress before her meds wore off. Homegirl was a lil touched.

I didn't find Dawn annoying until S6. After she started stealing and genuinely being a pain in the ass, I was ready for one of those demons to off her. Unfortunately, they didn't.
Can't leave off the Scoobies. They became less likeable as the series continued. By the time we got to S7 and Touched, I was ready for Buffy to leave Sunnydale and them behind. Chosen pissed me off. I loved it, but I also hated it because all the exes got killed and all the Scoobies lived. The only characters I liked at the end were Buffy, Spike, Anya, and Clem.

Buffy is an example of a show that started out damn near perfect, and just messed with its premise too much. I am all for character growth but Witchie is right, they all became different ( not better) people as the show went on. I could not stand Tara, she was just bland and boring. But Dawn was even worse. I don't know why they had to add all these useless characters when all they had to do is just give airtime to the established, interesting characters. But I am one of those weird people who likes Riley. I thought that he was seriously hot.
My favorite ep is the Season 3 finale. I loved everyone rallying together to fight off the Mayor (love love love the mayor). I don't care for anything after Season 4, Buffy and Spike were just wrong, and the Slayerettes were a pale attempt at their early glory.
As much as I hated it after Buffy died the 2nd time, I still watched every blasted episode. Buffy was one of those shows that I had to find out what was happening, even if it sucked.

I agree, bklynred.Glory was great! She was made of the stuff that a Buffy villain should be. Stereotypical, superficial and ironic. Season 5, in general, was really good. Buffy was at the top of her game. Tara and Willow's relationship was portrayed beautifully. Joyce died. Angel crossover. Buffy's love for her sister. (she could sacrifice Angel but not Dawn? now that's what I call love!)

How could I forget the Mayor? He was so awesome, one of the best baddies ever. I liked his evil-father relationship with Faith, too.
