Go Peggy, Roger, Don and Bert (really Robert Morse-I loved that interlude). But Joan? You can go suck an egg. She's become bitter, petty and greedy. I was very unhappy with her character this season. I think being pretty much forced to sleep with the sleazy Jaguar guy to get what she should have gotten for her hard work, Don firing him so her debasement was for nothing and the reality that she is almost 40 and has to support her mother and a child alone has made her very bitter and very pragmatic.

I can't blame Joan for being pissed off at Don for blowing her chance to make a million bucks and be financial secure for life. Unlike the men, she can't walk into a comparable position at another firm. She'd be right back where she started in the steno pool, but this time she's nearly 40.

From my point of view, she wasn't forced into it. She would have done it without very little arm twisting but this way she can sit on her high horse and pretend she is better than everyone else. I've never been enamored of her character because she reminds me of a couple of people I have worked with over the years. Acting like they are the only competent ones in the office, when the real reason they are the favorite employee is because the boss knows he can get some from her every now and then.

I guess I never saw her that way but you are right that she has always lorded it over the other women and sometimes been down right mean. However, I do think she is good at her job and I like that she kicked her rapist husband out of her life and promoted Dawn. I do think she felt very debased by being asked by the men to sleep with the Jaguar guy. It is one thing to have an affair with hot Roger Sterling but quite another to have to sleep with a big sleaze who demanded you to get his business.

Joan probably couldn't land a partnership at another firm but she was office manager and head of personnel; I doubt she'd have to start from the bottom as a typist all over again. I think her anger at Don could have been better written/developed than it was. She had her outburst right after Don announced that he'd fired Jaguar, but didn't seem to be so harsh and snippy in her dealings with him until this season. Perhaps if we'd heard that the IPO falling apart cost her a million last year, then you wouldn't have so many people finding her attitude over the top now.

I agree there is a difference for her but its not surprising that others figured she is game for sleeping her way to the top. I don't doubt for one second everyone else in the office - especially Pete - knew all along about her and Roger. That stuff almost never remains the secret the people involved think it is. I also agree that she is good at her job, she wouldn't have gotten as far as she has if she wasn't at least someone competent. But I think a lot of her initial power is because she slept with the boss, and that was what gave her the balls to prance around the office like she was in charge.
I agree with this as well. Things seemed awkward between them last season, which I took as her being mad/hurt/ashamed that he judged her so harshly for sleeping with the Jaguar guy. The money seems like an excuse for something else.

Promo pics for final (half) seasonI admit my first reaction was "Megan! Why is she still there?!" Joan and Peggy look fab. Betty looks like Betty. I agree with T-Lo that the outfit doesn't fit Sally and she should be dressing more like Marcia Brady. My favorite is the one of Don and Peggy. Can't help it - I dig their relationship (as horrible as they can be to each other at times. But they are family).

Pete's paunch was what surprised me a little. Normally, I don't care about weight, but that just isn't a good look for anyone. (Reflects Pete's downfall, if you ask me.)
