This kind of shocks me, I have to say. I thought they'd be miserable together til death do they part. ITA on the creepy wifebeater vibes from SP. I have always wondered how such a sleazy douchebag landed one of the most (IMO) beautiful women in Hollywood. And I don't normally hold looks against a person, but dude looks like a constipated hedgehog. Imagine having to look at that for the last 15 years.

Man, I agree with the "most beautiful women in Hollywood," but my hubby said I was crazy! I also liked the fact that she wasn't a total famewhore. She turned down some really famewhorish roles like as the wife in The Firm.

I think Robin Wright is very pretty too, but I don't get how the role as the wife in The Firm would be considered famewhorish; come to think of it, I can't even remember who played the wife in The Firm.

This is the same Robin Wright that was Jenny in Forest Gump, one of the biggest movies of all time, right?

Was Forrest Gump supposed to be a smash? I thought it was a surprise to the industry. Whereas a movie starring Tom Cruise based on a John Grisham novel was expected to make a ton of cash.

I don't think the role of the wife was a famewhore role but maybe it would have given her some exposure that she might not have gotten otherwise because it was a Tom Cruise movie (however, the role didn't seem to benefit Jeanne Tripplehorn's career either, because I don't know where she is now, so maybe my perception might not be right).
I don't know if she's a good actress but I always got the impression from reading some articles that she could have had a bigger career (or at least a more respected one) if she wanted but chose not to go after that kind of success or prestige for whatever reason.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly dont think shes any sort of famewhore (and I despise that word, its just gross), but I don't think choosing to star alongside Tom Hanks in anything is avoiding Hollywood and all its trappings. Even before Gump he was an actor Box Office could rely on.
I think shes just a working Mum who chooses jobs that suit her family and lifestyle, rather than avoiding 'Hollywood'. And I think Sean Penn is a nasty type of person, with a God complex. "Theres a flood? Well I'll get in my dinghy and save everyone! I AM SO GREAT!"
