Jamie Cullum's version of Radiohead's "High & Dry" rocks my world. He also does a pretty mean Justin Timberlake's "Sexy/Back" and a hysterical Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone." I cannot bear to listen to Jamie's CDs, but love, love him live. You might like jacksoul, shopgirl6. I have his mySOUL album, and he does a lovely cover 'High and Dry' as well as an absolutely hilarious cover of Ashlee Simpson's 'Pieces of Me.' I am currently listening to The Plaid Tongue Devils. I'd never heard of them before, but I was lent the CD. It's good. Sort of like gypsy punk or a nod to Alberta's Ukranian heritage or something. Plaid Tongued Devils = Musical peroghies.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, that no one has mentioned Rufus Wainwright's covers of the Leonard Cohen songs "Hallelujah" and "Chelsea Hotel No. 2". I-EEEEE!!!! And then in the Leonard Cohen documentary, Teddy Thompson covered his "Tonight Will Be Fine" and I almost peed my pants. ...can you tell I'm a Leonard Cohen fan? ;D

I should give a listen to Jamie Cullum's version of "High & Dry." I love that Radiohead tune.

I really like Mott the Hoople's cover of "All the Young Dudes". Of course, I'm pretty sure I hear Bowie singing backup on it. It's so glam it makes me want to roll around in glitter and play guitar!
ETA: Sorry no one told you about Rufus' cover of Leonard Cohen, Clementine! They are excellent, aren't they? I'm also a fan of his cover of "Across the Universe", but I'm a bigger fan of "Hallelujah". His best cover, though, is "One Man Guy", a song originally done by his father, Loudon Wainwright III.

The mention of Siouxie's cover of Dear Prudence in one of the other threads reminded me of some other favorite covers. I love Fudge Tunnel's cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love". Great sort of hardcore cover of a psychadelic/early metal song.
I really love Afghan Whig's cover of "The Temple" from Jesus Christ Superstar. Of course, Greg Duli's voice makes everything interesting and dirty/sexy.

I've mentioned this somewhere before, but Peter Gabriel does a nice cover of The Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love". Even though I prefer the original, I do really like what PG did with the song. I also found a live version of "Born on a Train" covered by The Arcade Fire. Does anyone know of any other covers of songs by The Magnetic Fields? I love love love them, so I'd be interested to hear what other artists do with their music.

Living Colour also do a great cover of 'Sunshine of your love', it's off the True Lies soundtrack.
Caron Wheeler (ex-Soul II Soul singer) does an awesome R'n'B-type cover of 'Wind Cries Mary'.

Speaking of Radiohead covers: Sarah Slean does a gorgeous, haunting version of "Climbing Up the Walls."
