I vaguely recall a story from a few years ago about a pregnant former girlfriend who went to court to force him to get a paternity test because he denied the baby was his. Tom & Rita issued a statement about welcoming their new grandchild into the family, and it sounded like they were making an effort to reach out to the mother. I kinda doubt Chet has too much to do with the child, though. He sounds like bad news all around. Not that I feel sorry for him in the slightest, but I think growing up in a wealthy celeb family can really mess up the kids.

I did not know that about Chet Hanks. Yuck. I’m currently watching Life in Pieces. Colin Hanks is in the cast and he is delightful. I now want to avoid reading anything about him for fear I’ll dislike him. I gotta say it, but Josh Brolin's dad is also in Life in Pieces. Nepotism? I don't know for sure, but James Brolin is delightful. I hear he's married to some famous singer...

Don’t know if people will know much about the Indian movie scene, where nepotism is rife, almost unapologetically so, and came to a bit of a head when Kangana Ranaut (who started off as a tell it like it is firebrand, and now seems to be getting a bit genuinely nuts/unpleasant after the Hrithk affair debacle) went on Karan Johar (director and talk show host considered the flagbearer of nepotism) to totally call him out about it when he tried to engage in some flattering revisionist history, and I don’t mean in a banter-ey pointed comment way, but called that shit OUT lol. V entertaining to watch, and about 80% tends to be in English not Hindi if anyone wants to YouTube it. The nepotism discussion came up again after Sushant Singh’s suicide.
The people who piss me off the most in this respect are Abhishek Bachan and Arjun Kapoor. Untalented, unattractive (the later has whined about a medical condition for his overweight and thick neck which I don’t see how that is relevant. If we accept that attractive looks are a pre-requisite for people to pay to see you onscreen, then how is being fat from a medical condition any more acceptable to be overlooked then being unattractive due to the genetic lottery? That moan particularly annoyed me) and unpleasant, particularly so when they moan about media intrusion when neither have ANY valid claim to the celebrity that is the reason for said intrusion.
That said, I can understand why some to get special interest from the audience, beyond the logistical foot in the door behind the scenes. In the rare cases where a celeb kid matches their parent for talent, looks, or charisma, there IS something magical and special about seeing the next chapter of that genetic story. In UK, Emilia and Laurence Fox are both talented and lovely looking, and I’m totally ok with whatever foot in the door they might have got because I don’t think they are now taking up space in the room which shouldn’t belong to them. I like seeing both onscreen, both for themselves, and yes because I saw their dads as a kid. Drives me crazy when I see Abhishek and Arjun in a good role though, because all I can think is how many talented and good looking outsiders would have loved that role.
Others this end of the pond whose place in the room seems valid are Ranbir Kapoor (I’d say he’s more than eclipsed his parents, definitely has a charming cheeky natural onscreen quality which even comes across in his interviews, and the Sanju biopic meant he showcased acting in a completely different role), and Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt I find very distinctive and have enjoyed their performances. So when justified, I can totally see the charm of seeing offspring make it, but when not justified (hell with the Smith kids I honestly never even found it justified for either of their parents, honestly never saw the appeal of Will or Jada) it is actually sad to think of the space nepotism bodies are occupying - and being inflicted on us viewers who could be missing out on someone actually good.

Years ago, I was watching a Bollywood movie dubbed into Thai. I didn't understand much but was struck by how absolutely unattractive the male lead was. Not ugly but just totally lacking in charisma. And his acting sucked.
I turned to my friend and asked if this guy was considered hot in India. She rolled her eyes and said that his father was a famous heartthrob from some years earlier.
I sure hope that Dad saw the light and never tried to inflict his son on humanity again. His kid was painfully untalented.

That reminds me - I watched Oliver Parker's version of Othello a few months ago. I kept having to look up various unappealing actors who were playing major roles in the movie. I thought it was odd that I'd never seen them in anything else because usually the same English actors always pop up everywhere. Cassio turned out to be the director's brother, Emilia turned out to be the director's sister-in-law.
And this is a strange turn of events, but Carys Zeta Douglas went off to college last fall and no longer updates her blue check instagram account. Her older brother, Dylan, attends Brown. I remember Catherine Zeta saying when her kids were little that with their genes, they weren't destined for college, they would probably go straight into the entertainment industry. How refreshing that they proved her wrong - especially with Catherine pushing the daughter out there at 15.

Is anyone watching The Gilded Age? Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter Louisa plays Marian. All of Meryl’s kids are acting or working in films now. Her son is a composer. Louisa dropped “Gummer” and goes by Jacobson.

Sounds like Abhishek Bachan (and if so I could not agree more with you!) who was one of my examples above of the worst nepotism results. Son of Amitabh Bachan (who yes, was The heartthrob in his time, and was undeniably hot and charismatic). Sadly both children are the result of (to paraphrase a fab Fametrack HITG quote) what happens when one marries down in the aesthetic caste system (she’s also a raging beeyatch which may explain why both offspring also feel so entitled despite the seeming fairly personable - or at least understanding the industry enough to low he should do a good job at faking it. I actually now would love to know if it was in fact Abhishek; would you be able to recall any random facts about the movie?

Speaking of Meryl's children, I had to look up which one of her kids is married to Mark Ronson. That would be Grace Gummer, who was formerly married for 42 days to this handsome specimen whose appeal must have had something to do with being the son of actor David Strathairn.

WOW for the Strathairn family resemblence, though!

And another Beckham spawn is creating controversy. Cruz, barely 17 (16 when the photos were taken), has posed on the cover of a magazine with his pants down. He is trying to promote a career in music. Because absolutely every member of the Beckham family needs to be famous and put themselves out there in the most desperate way possible. I mean, he's not completely naked but I think I agree with those who point out the double standard if it were a 16 year old girl posing in her underwear. No reason for that other than to cause a stir. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/cruz-beckham-shirtless-photoshoot-202609734.html
