I know she's not the character she plays on Empire... But that kid will be DAMN lucky if he doesn't wind up whumped upside the head with a broom handle!

That was a very classy response. She should teach a class on celebrity apologies.

That really is one of the best celebrity apologies I can remember. When I clicked, I was expecting it to be half-hearted and insincere, but she explained where she was coming from and seemed genuine about her regret.

Good for her. I do love that the universal consensus seems to be that her son is in for the ass kicking of his life.

Good for her for apologizing for her false allegation, but it's only because video proved her wrong. She should have gotten all the facts before publicly accusing anyone of anything, especially racism. It does a disservice to the real victims of racism, and we have far too many of them these days.

Would most people even assume there was information to gather beyond speaking with the person who was stopped? Speaking as someone whose had to wade through FOIA waters with the NYPD, I can say that even if you do know that there are steps one could take to gather more info, it's still an arduous process that doesn't always yield results. New York is considered one of the worst places for FOIA requests, but it took two months just to get word that they were considering the request. Of course YMMV, but for me it was just a case of her believing her son's not totally far-fetched sounding tale.

Racial profiling by Los Angeles police is certainly not an unbelievable thing to hear.
However, I think any mother should be skeptical when her 20 year old son gets into trouble and insists he did nothing wrong and the whole thing was bogus. My siblings and I always claimed that too, and our parents never bought it.

Yeah. This is all really unfortunate, and it's easy to get what happened. But if you're high profile, and you're going to talk to the press about it, then you need to make sure everything you're saying is accurate, because that is a serious accusation and it is really easy for a reporter to investigate.
I wonder what kind of social fall out he'll get, hah. I would side eye a friend so hard...

The son was not cited for the traffic violation that he was originally pulled over for, but he was cited for the weed violation. She mentioned that in the interview and I can see how that would be a big part of why she believed him.
