That is possibly the most boring look of the night so far. For Gaga I think that's a compliment in a weird way. That look feels very Madonna circa her Dick Tracy period. Now I have " Hanky Panky" in my head.

She won, and she very slowly and dramatically walked to the podium, bumping Leo, and gave a very self-serious speech and cried and said she'd always wanted to be an actress, blah, blah, blah. It was pretty over the top for the Golden Globes.

I don't know why the fact that she was born with musical talent isn't enough for her. She's always looking to be something...more. When she found success as a music artist she had to add on performance art and advocacy. Now she's aspiring to be an actress and claiming that it's what she always wanted to be. Most of us weren't born with the kind of talent she has in music the universe gave her, but she can't seem to appreciate that. What she really wants is to be a huge fucking star admired and loved by everyone in the world forever and ever and ever. I hope she can figure how to be happy some other way, because that ain't happening.

IIRC, she talked about her early ambitions in the HBO taping of her MSG concert several years ago--she'd been accepted at NYU's Tisch School for musical theatre, which she hoped would be her stepping stone to Broadway. When she got there, though, she was constantly being told that she was too ethnic/too different/too common to be successful on stage. The Gaga persona came out of her jazz club/punk rock performances during her college and post-college years in NYC--not what she had intended to do initially, but born out of a need to make some coin while she auditioned for Broadway shows.

She was walking without moving her arms. It was really weird.

Huh. So she did win? That is kind of lame. I've heard people say that she has some promise as an actress but on AHS she was often flat and you could tell she was inexperienced. I get giving her one if she had given an electric or raw or honest performance. But from what I had seen (and what people were saying) she basically starred in "Bad Romance" for a season and played it pretty stoic with limited range. She beat out some major performers. She made me miss Jessica Lange.

She couldn't have needed that much coin. She went to school with Paris Hilton. I believe she's from a wealthy family.

The Gaga persona came out of her jazz club/punk rock performances during her college and post-college years in NYC--not what she had intended to do initially, but born out of a need to make some coin while she auditioned for Broadway shows. I know very little about how Broadway casting works, but I do know that musicals aren't a sea of blondes beauties or any particular look. There are parts on Broadway for all kinds of faces. The "I didn't fit in" line of bullshit is part of the old Gaga narrative, the one where she was bullied and a struggling artist and what not. She's a bit more honest nowadays. She wanted to be a star one way or another, and music was the next thing to try out. Dad was paying the rent, so hey, might as well give it a go! When ArtPop flopped (relatively speaking) she turned on the pop music industry and made a bunch of statements about how awful it all is. She then went on to do a stint with Tony Bennett, which was GENIUS! But the thing is, it didn't provide the kind of stardom she craves. So it was time to try the acting thing again. If her acting career flops, I guarantee she'll come out with a new pop-dance album, and round and round it will go. Lady Gaga's story reminds me of Taylor Swift. They both demand to be stars and refuse to leave the spotlight. Taylor also had the help of wealthy parents and worked her way up to stardom by trial and error. First she tried Broadway, but that didn't work out, so next she tried country music even though she was not exactly a country girl. She hit the jackpot there, but it didn't provide the kind of stardom she craves, so she left country behind and became an unapologetic pop star. And I'd bet that if her music career falters, she'll quickly get the ball rolling with an acting career. I respect both of these women for their ambition and drive and determination and talent, but I'll never see them as true artists devoted to their craft. They're fame addicts who are always looking for their next fix.

I assumed she had on some crazy ridiculous shoes on under that dress that we couldn't see.
