I didn't watch because I quit Glee in S2, but I did see the performance clips and it was gut wrenching. I also saw the scene with Finn's mom and she was brilliant. I felt her grief. Puck's cover was my favorite and the actor looked pained. They all did. I hate that Quinn wasn't there, she should've been. Ryan Murphy continues to be the worst.

Me, too! I thought, "Whoa, Shue. That was pretty f-ed up that you'd do that to Santana."
I had to see how they'd handle Finn/Cory being gone and it was obviously a stand-alone episode, so I wasn't expecting much. But Finn's mom deserves an Emmy. I was bawling. There were moments that made me tear up because how sad it is to know that it's not just the death of a character, but of a real person and the senselessness of his death. Not to mention having Rachel/Lea come in in the last act, that was the final straw and it had me really sad.
I'm thinking that they didn't bring back Heather Morris because during the filming she was SERIOUSLY preggers.

I haven't watched for a long time, but tuned in for "The Quarterback" last night. You could tell that the cast members were really grieving their real-life friend, but as an episode I thought it was pretty flat. There must have been some reasoning on the part of the show-runners to not discuss how Finn died, but in my experience with high school kids, they WOULD think it matters, and they WOULD want to talk about it. Some of the song performances were wonderful, I'll give it that. That was my take on it. Some parts were moving - like Finn's family breaking down while they were packing up his things, but overall it was awkward and "Meh." It did a great job of confirming my decision to stop watching the show, though. No regrets, there. And I agree that Mr. Shue taking the jacket was totally effed up. Not only did he stand there and allow other students accuse Puck of taking the jacket, but he basically accused Puck himself! What a damn weirdo. And Ryan Murphy should have removed whatever bug he's got up his butt about DA and let her return for this episode. Quinn's absence was kinda glaring considering she and Finn were once a couple. I think RM needs to read Emma's "Wait...Am I callous?" pamphlet.

Wow that rendition of "Make You Feel My Love" set me off on a serious crying jag. Lea did a truly heartbreaking and beautiful performance. Watching Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Chord Overstreet, & Kevin McHale (not sure how much Darren Criss/Jenna Ushkowitz were acting or not, seemed they were in character) sob/tear up really did me in. 4 of the 6 mentioned have known Monteith since the pilot, such a devastating loss. Lea gets all of my respect for being professional & a class act in regards to filming. The glaring omission of Quinn Fabray was tactless. She played his first love! Not cool Ryan Murphy. I must say on a shallow note that Puck's face(and voice!) are aging terribly. He looked great in 2009, just 4 short years ago, what happened?

I haven't watched the show in years, but I watched this episode. Question for anyone who was brave enough to watch all this time- did Ryan Murphy just replace the original castmembers with their doppelgängers? I spotted Quinn, Mercedes, and Santana ones.

I hadn't watched in forever but I did watch this one. I know they took a lot of first takes because the show was too emotional for actors to keep redoing songs, scenes, etc. I couldn't judge the ep on its own merit because, well, it was a tribute, and there were probably all sorts of behind-the-scenes chatter about how it should be handled. I think it was all done as tastefully as possible & still be entertainment under the circumstances. Santana and Rachel both made me tear up.
Re: jacket...I thought it was both weird and an interesting, unexpected twist. In my head, I'm going to assume he gives the jacket back after he's cried it out.

I don't really get why everyone is up in arms about Will taking the jacket and blaming Puck. This is the guy who in the very first episode planted weed on Finn to get him to join Glee!!

I'm glad there is a break between episodes. It makes The Quarterback stand out a little and not just an episode shoehorned into the season.
