She did the usual media gauntlet just two years ago, when she released an album and was promoting a tour. People bitched and moaned for her to go away. She doesn't do any interviews in the mean time, and it must be because she's dumb and stupid.
Everyone from white politicians and white feminists to other celebrities (comparing Blue Ivy's looks to ODB) have been doing the most against Beyonce in the last few years. I don't even blame her for for not entertaining the majority of them.
Beyonce will be doing two big festivals in the upcoming weeks. She'll do what she usually does here too, post behind the scenes and making of videos on her website. No interviews, because this doesn't warrant full court press promo.

Frankly it's not like her interviews are so interesting that you'll miss her. She's probably trying to create "mystery". Bye, Girl!

She wasn't quite as good as Bruno Mars during the Super Bowl but definitely better than Cold Play. I kind of side eyed her backup dancers dressed as Black Panthers? Kind of strange, supposed to be a tribute but did the outfits seem wrong/silly to anyone else?

Kind of strange, supposed to be a tribute but did the outfits seem wrong/silly to anyone else? It did to Rudy Giuliani. This is why I can't hate Beyonce. For an artist that many consider safe and unwilling to take risks, she sure does piss a lot of people off.

I think the new song is awful but the video is amazing.
I guess I don't know if the outfits were disrespectful or not, but they fit in with the video and I thought it was cool to have something so, for lack of a better phrase, unapologetically black, represented like that...but I may be misinformed on this.

I haven't seen her video yet, just the half time performance. I can't imagine Angela Davis or Kathleen Cleaver shaking it to fight the man.

They don't call her Queen Bey for nothing. I appreciate that she's getting political and really using her voice to talk about race and feminism.
I love what Sarah Silverman tweeted- Can anyone else in the history of the world release a song and the same day sing it on the motherfucking Super Bowl & we all know the words
You really do need to see the video to understand what she's doing. Go watch it!

For an artist that many consider safe and unwilling to take risks, she sure does piss a lot of people off. I confessed in the Unpopular Music Opinions thread that Beyoncé's music isn't my cup of tea. I did see the video over the weekend. (I didn't realized it had been just released.) I think the song isn't quite as enjoyable or as impactful without the visuals from the video. With that in mind, if she pissed off Rudy Giuliani, then I have to give her props. Giuliani has really been showing his ass in the last couple of years or so. ETA: From the article: Beyoncé‘s "Formation" Music Video Is a Startling, Subversive StatementTake that, Blake Lively.

It took the success of I Am...Sasha Fierce to slowly unshackle herself from respectability politics. That album gave her the type of mainstream success to allow politics to slowly seep in without financial repercussions. The ascendancy of the Obama Administration seemed to give her the confidence to finally stop being polite("I'm so grateful just to be here") and start being a bit more real. That she defies code-switching with her Texas-Bama proclamations is frankly astounding if you've followed her career from Destiny's Child until now. For a long, long, long time Beyonce's public persona was Christian, Texas, beauty pageantry. This is why I couldn't dismiss the overt sexuality of the Beyonce album. Because along with (re)claiming her personhood via her body's pleasure (and a black woman's body in this country has historically been commodified for capitalist gain) she snuck in Chimimanda's definition of feminism. As a sample on a song that asks you to love yourself as a woman. I'm even thrilled about her rebuke of those that hate Blue Ivy's kinky hair. I'm excited about her defiance. ETA: Speaking of I Am...Sasha Fierce, Single Ladies prominently displays J-Setting but Formation makes the inclusion of black queer culture explicit with Big Freedia's feature. So, so fucking important. Feminism must be intersectional to even be relevant.

I see Greecies were doing their best not to bump her thread.
