Someone on NY1 just said that in order for Beowulf not to suck, you have to see it on IMAX 3-D. Anyone do this?
I'm just curious how all this animation was considered more creative than live action/CGI?

Is Ray Winstone as annoying throughout as he sounds with the line "they say your lands are cursed" in the commercials? I get annoyed every time I hear it.

I always think it's Gerald Butler from 300.

Everyone was annoying! The dialogue is horrible. The CGI makes everything seem creepy and inhuman (which, when the story is about a the human failings of a near-superhero king, ain't a good thing). Grendal is too graphic and scary (IMO, but I'm easily creeped out). The big fight with Grendal, which should be harrowing and vulnerable because Beowulf faces him naked, without weapons, is inadvertently hysterically funny because of all the "Austin Powers" shots to hide his crotch. The women characters are little more than penis receptacles. There's weird Christianity stuff thrown in that's totally out of place. And obviously, this ain't the Beowulf story you read in Lit class.
I also can't figure out who the hell this thing is marketed to. I think just creepy gamers who want to scam on Angelina's GCI boobies.

Yes!! Whenever I see the trailer I keep waiting for Beowulf to say, "This...Is...SPARTA!"

{Homer Simpson voice}Mmmm...Gerard Butler...{/HSv}
If the film Talk to Me comes to a theatre or DVD rental near you, see it! It stars Don Cheadle and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and it's based on the true story of an ex-con (Cheadle) in 1960's Washington, DC who becomes a famous DJ. Ejiofor plays his manager, and is directed by the wonderful Kasi Lemmons (who directed the equally wonderful Eve's Bayou). I saw a screening of it a few days ago, and I highly recommend it for the acting, directing, and the story (a trifecta!). I'll be very surprised if Cheadle and Ejiofor are overlooked at awards time. I couldn't believe that Ejiofor is British; his American accents were dead on.

I rented Talk to Me last weekend and absolutely loved it. I'd love to see Cheadle get some awards for his role. Unfortunately, it was released so early in the year and the best actor category is so crowded this year.

Equally unfortunately, Cheadle looks like the SNL character The Ladies Man in the trailer. I seriously thought that's what it was, at first.

I couldn't believe that Ejiofor is British; his American accents were dead on. He also does an American accent in 'Inside Man' and 'American Gangster', both times flawlessly. Of all the Brit actors, he's at or near the top of the list for Yank voices. Gosh bless Ewan McGregor, but if I never have to hear him butcher an American character again, I'll die a happy broad.
