A friend of mine went to high school with her (they weren't in the same class though) and said that Jenny and her sisters were really nice girls. She went to Mother McAuley, an all girls' Catholic school in Chicago. I dated a guy whose sister went there. Anyway, that's why I have a soft spot for her. I like to see my fellow Chicagoans out and about doing well for themselves. (Also why I tuned into Jeremy Piven on Entourage.) I think she really endeared herself with the tell-all book about pregnancy. Stars, they're just like Us!

I'm only surprised it lasted as long as it did. IIRC, Jenny asked him to marry her on the day they met.

I always thought she was cute, in an annoying way. A couple people I know said her pregnancy book is great, too. My biggest problem with her is the fact that we share a last name, and, years after she was actually famous, people STILL make jokes about it. This week, a guy called me back about a work-related issue and called me "Jenny," which I intentionally ignored because I knew he knew my real name. His response: "Did you get that? I called you Jenny! Hee hee, I wish." Ok, dude, not funny. And this wasn't a young guy, this was someone's grandfather I'm talking about here.

Try having "Newman" for a last name. F*&$ you, Seinfeld! On topic: I too am only surprised that the marriage lasted as long as it did. I think I mentioned upthread how off-putting I found it in Jenny's book Belly Laughs how she wrote about how her husband basically wanted nothing to do with her sexually during her pregnancy because of her size.

Oh man, I'm sorry ... Newman. (Sorry, sorry, I'm a jerk)
What a jackass. He's not exactly a hottie, I don't know why he's so fussy.

The impression I got from reading her Belly Laughs was that she was the one with the major hang-ups about having sex while pregnant (wasn't the chapter titled something like "Pig in a Poke" or something?). I am sure that she was exaggerating for comedic effect, but she made it sound like her husband was desperate for sex but she just didn't feel sexy and couldn't get turned on. It is entirely possible that part of her insecurity about her pregnant body stemmed from his reactions, but I didn't read the book that way. It wasn't like she was desperate for the sex and he couldn't get it up for a "fattie" or something.
I bought Baby Laughs for a friend and ended up reading it myself while waiting for her in the doctor's office. It was an easy read and I thought it would be very comforting to someone who kept wondering if what she was going through was "normal" and being too embarrassed to ask a doctor about it.

I hear ya about the names. My name is Naomi, and I get the "your name is I moan backwards." Giggle Giggle.
These guys act like they came up with the joke. When that Van Wilder movie came out, I was teased mercilessly.
On topic, I like her. She seems quite cool and she doesn't take herself seriously. I love women who are beautiful...and don't think the world revolves around them.

Thursdaynext, that's just the impression I got. While the book didn't explicitly mention him saying "get away from me, fat pig", or anything, certain clues lead me to believe that he felt that way. And, yes, it's clear Jenny had some very serious hangups about sex (acting as though someone who's 190 pounds cannot possibly have sex) and her baby weight, but I really got the impression that he had issues, too.
One chapter talks about how Jenny was upset about her ass growing and her husband noted the change and kept singing "Baby got back" to her. She also mentioned that he kept his "willy far away from" her the entire time because it would be "too weird" because of the baby in her stomach. And most notably, he was watching some Playmate chicks on some t.v. show and this really, really bothered Jenny, but he wouldn't change the channel until she finally cried.
So while some may not have read into these tidbits what I did, IMO, I got the general impression that he was kind of assy about it. I know if Mr. Newmy would have acted like this during my recent pregnancy, it would have been ON!
So I could totally be misreading this, but that was my impression.
