Well, I guess I'm glad that somehow the inappropriateness of her comments trickled down to her. As a mother who suffered heart failure after a traumatic birth, and then spent the next month beating myself up over my inability to breastfeed fully (you know, pesky heart meds and all), I am very sensitive to comments like hers!

Hopefully she got enough feedback from people that she'll try to be better informed, more empathetic and way less judgmental in future.

I doubt she really meant and actual law, she was probably exaggerating to make a point or being silly. And she's right that she's allowed to have an opinion, and she is from a different culture with different norms.

I think it's just how she said it. I mean I see her point, and if she had said something like: "I really wish women who could, would breastfeed. And I wish medical professionals would encourage it, and employers would make it easier, etc." Most people would have clapped and cheered, or at least agreed. But she did not, she inserted her foot in her mouth, which appears to be a pattern for her.

This episode also makes me wonder about the comments she made about being a mother to her stepson. When she first said those things I was fully on the "she was trying to be nice/it's a language thing" train. Now I wonder if she really was trying to point score with Bridget?

After these comments, I'm firmly of the opinion that she went out of her way to diss Bridget. I wonder if Bridget breastfed?

Sorry I didn't clarify. I meant her comments about being Jack's mom were meant to diss Bridget. It was excused by some that there was a language barrier, but she made it seem likie Bridget wasn't in the kid's life and she took on the mom role. When in reality, Bridget has the kid most of the time.
Now if Bridget hadn't breastfed, I could definitely see it as another put down.

I think her comments were well-meaning and something got lost in translation. I highly doubt she actually meant that there should literally be a law for women to breastfeed. Obviously, she's had a good experience with it and seems overeager to promote it, she's probably not really thought through the fact that some women can't breastfeed.
This probably isn't a very popular opinion here, but I like and agree with some of her comments about pregnancy and motherhood. It's actually refreshing to hear somebody talk about labour in a positive way, rather than the "OMG it's the worst thing ever, noone else has possibly ever felt so much pain, woe is me" attitude that a lot of new mothers seem to have, when it seems to be like a competition to see who had the worst pregnancy/birth experience and who has the most difficult newborn. At least Gisele's positive about the whole experience and it actually seems like motherhood's something she wants to do.

I look at her comments and think she is ignorant, like this one: 'If the Pats Lose, I'll Run Naked Through Mid-Town Manhattan'. She is so self-absorbed she never thinks before speaking.
