She's been getting a ton of backlash, so of course she's backing down from her comments. But this is par for the course for Gisele, she's always saying obnoxious shit. This quote (from a Vogue 2010 interview) about mentoring girls in Boston made me roll my eyes. She really believes there is very little racism in Brazil?

She seems kind of like an absolutist, as though life is largely black and white, and she is very certain that she's right. I've always vaguely liked her, but that kind of attitude drives me crazy.
Confession: I liked her better with Leo, and I feel like they 'should' have stayed together. I know nothing about their relationship, so I think it's just a chemistry they had together.

Yeah, she's not the only one who thinks that racism isn't a problem in Brazil. I've heard a number of people spout similar sentiments in all earnestness. (Another place that apparently has little racism? Australia.) Must be a pretty large rock they've all been living under. Did someone call her out on that delicious piece of stupidity? The part about yoga made me .

She's like a walking parody of a self-important model. Like a character in Zoolander. You are not changing the world, honey, just stand there and look pretty.
And I am sooooo glad she's not with Leo anymore. I like Leo. He seems to have some self-awareness and humility about him. If they were still together, I'd have to wonder, "why are you with this silly woman?"

So Brazil has no racism, everyone breastfeeds (EVERYONE), and infants are potty trained. Why don't she and Tom spend the off season down in this magical place?
About the pleasant pain free, drug free childbirth. BULL. I agree that too many people tell their birth horror stories for way too many years, but there's gotta be a happy medium between that and the lovely time that Gis had.
And you know, I always liked them. I love how thrilled they seem with the babies. But she just needs to be quiet now.

Giselle herself is also from Rio Grande do Sul, which is vastly different from the western states. So, it's not surprising that she subscribes to this philosophy. I think Giselle is well meaning, but her intentions are lost/garbled from translating language and culture. She's pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things.

Why is she giving interviews? Not that I think she should be "denied" or anything, but do models normally do this much talking? I only recall Cindy Crawford giving interviews, but that was because she was hosting a show on MTV and had a lot of businesses on the side. Plus, Cindy was sort of well-liked and she was from that super-model era when people found models kind of interesting. I've never really thought of Gisele in the same vein, even if she is the biggest model working today. What I mean is that I don't ever hear anyone saying "Oh that Gisele, I'd love to be her" whereas with Cindy or Linda Evangelista you'd kind of hear that sort of thing from time to time. It doesn't seem like even men talk about Gisele that much, though I recall them talking a lot about Cindy.
I don't think I've really even seen Kate Moss talk this much.
Are models nowadays listened to/interviewed, or is this something that now comes along with being married to a football star whose face I can never remember?

I am sorry, but the quote about 'saving' these kids just shows what an ignorant, arrogant elitist she really is. Gisele, go back to school and get a degree, learn some humility, respect, and oh, try to learn something about the economic reality of life for the majority of people in the country in which you live, for fuck's sake!
