I do appreciate the fact that a celebrity actually admits that she tried to have some magical connection with less fortunate simply due to her celebrity and that it failed. However, that said, I do find it funny that Giesle swans into a room with a bunch of urban disadvantaged youth and was shocked to find out that they didn't know who she was and they didn't immediately respond to her magical benevolence. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall there.

Why did she think she was going to "save" them just by showing up? Did she actually do anything to help them in a constructive way (besides the yoga stuff)?
Maybe they were disappointed she wasn't Steffi Graf.

I wonder what she and Tom talk about all day. They both seem like they are two sandwiches short of a picnic. It must suuuuuuuuck for Bridget Moynahan to deal with Gisele if this quote is what she thinks is appropriate for national publication. Can't imagine what she prattles on about in private.

Hopefully she got enough feedback from people that she'll try to be better informed, more empathetic and way less judgmental in future. I don't get why people are bent out of shape over silly shit that a silly woman said. She's giving her opinion, even if it is a foolish one. I mean I'd just pat her on the head and say, "that's nice dear." I mean no one is going to make a law about breast feeding just because this baubblehead says something she thinks is profound. I mean of course she's sheltered, I mean I was surprised to hear that SHE actually breastfeeds, I thought she'd be the type to hire a wet nurse.

She's famous, so unfortunately everyone is going to give weight to her opinions on everything.

(I don't think so, anyway.) Just like she's giving her opinion, we're giving our opinion on her opinion. I don't see that as an overreaction.

I just find Giselle's stupidity especially annoying because I don't think she REALIZES how stupid she is. She's so aggressive and dogmatic about sharing her dumbass opinions and impressions. At least Jessica Simpson seems aware of her own dumbassity (yes, that is word. I just coined it. )

Yeah, she's not the only one who thinks that racism isn't a problem in Brazil. I've heard a number of people spout similar sentiments in all earnestness. (Another place that apparently has little racism? Australia.) Must be a pretty large rock they've all been living under. Did someone call her out on that delicious piece of stupidity? Sadly, I've also heard some of those same sentiments expressed. And nope, no call out. Did she actually do anything to help them in a constructive way (besides the yoga stuff)? I don't think so. She says that she came up with a 9-week program to teach young girls about empowerment and self-esteem. Nice idea, but I don't think she really thought it through. I think what particularly bothers me about that quote is how dismissve she seems to be. She was dealing with abused girls that are living in shelters. Did she really think she could walk in and automatically gain their trust? Did she ever think about why it was so hard for them to identify with her? But there is a silver lining. Out of the frustration for not being able save the girls, she invented a skin care line.

But there is a silver lining. Out of the frustration for not being able save the girls, she invented a skin care line. ROFL. I can't even roll my eyes at that one because it's so patently ridiculous. This may be my new favorite thread. I like checking out certain threads - e.g. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Gwyneth Paltrow, in the past there was also Kate Hudson - because one can always count on a constant stream of delicious snark fodder. *rubs hands*

But there is a silver lining. Out of the frustration for not being able save the girls, she invented a skin care line. ROFL! That totally sounds like something out of Zoolander! I think my strong reaction to her pontificating on the pregnancy and breastfeeding is because it reminds me of RL moms I know who act exactly like that. They had/have an easy birth/pregnancy/child and immediately assume that anyone who didn't do things the way they did are doing it wrong because they're stupid or lacking in some other way. As in: "I don't understand why anyone would be ignorant enough to have a c-section! Natural birth is so easy and good for the baby!" Err, maybe if you had to because your baby was in distress and might die at any minute? For example... Or: "Everyone should breastfeed! Why are some people so misinformed and silly that they don't? It's so easy and natural!" Except if your baby is preemie and/or is unable to latch after 3 months even with all the best help of all the lactation consultants available. For example. I don't mind people sharing their experiences and tips, but everyone should be aware that not everyone's experience is the same when it comes to kids, breasts and childbirth. There are a lot of judgmental/bitchy/arrogant/empathy-lacking moms everywhere and the way they assume everyone who doesn't do things their way is WRONG rubs me the wrong way big time. /rant over. And yes, I have run into several moms like this, why do you ask?
