Hello.....
Is anyone still watching this? I came across the thread when searching for another one. I quit watching the season when Negan showed up and ate the show. That was eons ago, and now Carl's dead and Rick left the show. Those aren't really spoilers now, right? Everyone knows that happened. Anyone still hanging on to the bitter end? Is Darryl and his grease soaked body still riding the loudest motorcycle in Atlanta? Are they still finding random groups of heavily armed people? How terrible is it now?

I’m still watching it, why? I don’t know. I think more out of curiosity at this point to see how absurd it can get.
In addition to everyone on the original cast but Carol and Daryl now being gone, they’ve rather unceremoniously written off Maggie and her kid. And they’ve employed my least favorite gimmick for storytelling on a serialized drama: the time skip. They skipped five or six years, and there was apparently some huge drama that happened during that time to make Michonne keep Alexandria totally isolated from the other communities and it somehow involved Maggie. Daryl lives on his own in the woods with a dog named Dog, Carol has long hair, and Jesus is in charge of Hilltop because Maggie left. And they’ve introduced a brand new group of characters that we’re suddenly supposed to care about and they’re basically a walking group of cliches: hotheaded woman with a chip on her shoulder? Check. More reasonable woman trying to keep everyone calm? Check. Useless nerdy guy who can’t fight? Check. Generic teenager? Check. One of them is deaf though so that’s slightly different. And the calm woman is British so that’s also new. I think she’s probably the first British person to be on the show whose character is also British.

That sounds even worse than I imagined. Also, is it true that Rick was kidnapped/carried away by helicopter? Did they kill Maggie and the kid? And forget about the new group of cannon fodder, did they ever wrap up the story lines of the missing Alexandria folks? That one black guy with the bad braided wig? The priest Gabriel? The lesbian girl who used to be with the Governor whose name I can't remember. Carl's annoying kinda girlfriend? I don't really care, I'm just curious why they keep added more folks, when they never have decent plots for the people already in the cast.

I think she left with some random character they introduced once awhile back. Apparently Lauren Cohan isn't 100% confident that her new show will work out, so she left a back door open to come back. Rick was indeed carried off by helicopter with Jadis, the trash woman. If the guy with the bad braided wig refers to Ezekiel, he is still around, now married to Carol and they're raising an orphaned kid as their own. If you meant Heath, he disappeared a long time ago and was never spoken of again. Tara, the lesbian, is co-runner of Hilltop and still annoying as ever. Carl's semi-girlfriend became a doctor's apprentice and Gabriel is still around, but is now half blind. I'm not at ALL interested in the most recent group (the ones that roisin54 described), but I admit to being slightly interested in the next group coming. The whispering zombie herds were genuinely creepy and I'm curious to see how that plays out in the early stages, but not all that pumped about yet another faction to war with, which is where I think this is heading. I feel like setting an end date for the show might help it move toward some sort of meaningful conclusion, otherwise they're just going to keep going round and round with new "wars" and more characters to not care about.

Heath! That's the one. Disappeared into the ether. Yikes. And Tara, the other annoying one. Ugh. It all sounds so awful. I remember when the show was appointment tv, and it became dreck and went to hell super fast. I guess there's no point in even asking why Rick left with the weird talking lady. And who has a working helicopter in an apocalypse? And where would they be heading? I hated Negan so much, I forgot to even ask about him. Is he still alive and leading his group? What happened to Eugene being held hostage?

What happened to Eugene being held hostage? Yep, still watching, mostly because of my sick completionist tendencies. Trash lady has apparently been in sporadic contact with the helicopter people to bring them "A" vs. "B" type people (and no, I don't care what that means you stupid show) and after an aborted attempt to run away with Gabriel she decided to save Rick after he blew up the bridge and conveniently got himself blown in a magical trajectory back to the riverbank. All so that Scott Gimple could return to glory and oversee a trio of future TV movies about Rick and the helicopter people. Negan is still prisoner in Alexandria and talks to Judith through the outside window bars while she does homework on the front steps. I'm sure Michonne would love that. Eugene has turned into a capable walker killer but is now hiding in a barn after he and Rosita were chased by the Whisperers.

What happened to Eugene being held hostage? Rick was unconscious when trash lady scooped him up so she basically kidnapped him, she apparently had some kind of deal with whoever the helicopter belongs to (which is still unknown) that has yet to be explained but it probably involves human trafficing. There are going to be a series of TV movies focused on what’s going on with Rick with the first one starting production sometime next year. And Eugene turned full on Savior for a while but wound up actually saving the day in the final battle with that group because he sabotaged their bullets. And post time skip the mullet has turned into a long ass braid. Oh! And it turns out Rick knocked up Michonne because she now has a little boy named RJ, which I’m assuming is short for Rick Jr.

It all sounds so awful. I'm glad I got out when it did.

Well the new villain is truly creepy & scary. I know the show doesn't follow the comucs much anymore but I spoilered myself and I think the back half of the season might be pretty brutal.
It makes me care even less what Negan is getting up to. 😁
