That dress looks like it is sliding off her torso.

I haven't seen Winter's Bone, but she seems a little old for the part. Not that Jennifer Lawrence is elderly, but she's 20 and easily looks older than that. Katniss is 16. But she could be great, who knows.
I'm more interested in how the heck they'll put this movie on screen without the extreme violence that is in the book.

I thought Saoirse was more age appropriate for katniss. I think part of the horror is that she's thrown onto the games to kill others and she's just a child herself whereas Jennifer gives off more of a young woman vibe. I can't say I'm sold on the casting right now. Curious who they will pick for peeta and gale.

Ugh. This casting pisses me off, considering that the book strongly implies that Katniss is supposed to be multiracial - yeah, I know that white people can also have 'olive skin' but why does that have to win out over multiracial? Why is white the default? And then the casting specifically asked for white actresses only. And the director's trivializing of the issues pisses me off. You jackass, it's NOT about her hair color. *grumblegrumblegrumble*
Nothing against Jennifer Lawrence though, she seems cool. I don't particularly care about her age, maybe because I'm so used to Dawson Casting that a 20-year-old playing 16 doesn't seem that egregious to me. There are 27-year-olds playing high schoolers on the CW, so.... yeah. LOL.

Did I miss something when reading the books where it's said Katniss is multi-racial? I always pictured her with olive skin and dark hair, but not necessarily someone non-white.
It's definitely not who I pictured as Katniss. But the fact that she's an Oscar nominated actress does give me hope that the movie won't suck.

It's never explicitly said, no. But what I don't like is how, in the absence of anything explicit, people automatically default to whiteness. Like - oh, it doesn't say she's multiracial, so she can totally be white! Which is technically true, but it's annoying how white always wins out over non-white in this sort of ~*ambiguous*~ situation. Plus, the casting director completely limited the auditions to white girls anyway, and it sounds like Ross had a boner for Lawrence from the start. Grrr.
And I've talked to people who are also shocked that Rue and Thresh are black. It's like the characters need a big blinking neon sign over their heads saying "BLACK/ASIAN/HISPANIC/INDIAN" before readers will realize that they're not white.
ETA: I just want to clarify that I don't think that Katniss is necessarily non-white. But the way the studio went about casting her stinks. However, that's not Jennifer's fault, and I certainly can't blame her for taking a high-profile role.
Edited AGAIN. WHY SO MUCH GRAMMAR FAIL?
