This article from Psychology Today explains the interactions between grapefruit juice and SSRIs and other drugs. It's not entirely understood and might have an underlying genetic link, but grapefruit can increase cortisol, among other things. I spotted the KMart ad with the children giving each other 'your mama' snaps on the play ground--I happen to like that one.

I always heard that eating grapefruit while taking MAOIs was a definite no-no due to dangerous interactions, but I don't recall reading an explanation specifying why it was dangerous. (There is a long list of other things you should not eat while taking MAOIs.) I haven't heard of grapefruit (or other foods - except alcohol!) interacting negatively with SSRIs.

I'm completely inexperienced in pharmacology, but I looked it up in Google Books and the grapefruit-SSRI interaction appears in medical textbooks, although some frame it as "avoid entirely" and others say "limit intake."

Yeah, I didn't catch it until the second viewing. Geico's commercials are the weirdest.

Besides the drugs mentioned above, you can't have grapefruit if you take statins, which lower cholesterol. Something in the grapefruit causes something bad to build up in your blood, blahblahblah deathcakes (it's been a while since I looked it up). I take simvastatin (generic Zocor), and have to avoid grapefruit completely.

I LOL'd at this one. I kept waiting for the characters to utter the "words that hurt" and the ending caught me off-guard, although not literally.

I liked that ad, but I thought it would be better for an antibullying campaign. I really like the way she says, "Jessie?" at the end.

I just saw this during Sharknado 2, on the big tv. I didn't see the payoff when I watched it in my phone.
MUCH funnier when you can see the payoff!

I honestly never watched the commercial all the way through until I saw this post so I never got that!
