I worked at HBO for five years, and I am STUNNED at how much money they are spending on this show. Things have definitely changed, or maybe the rules have changed for GoT. A friend was saying one of the things he liked about the show was that so much of the plot was driven by dialogue and acting because HBO doesn't have the budget to do so many big fight scenes or action set pieces like, say, Marvel/Disney. Good point by Kit Harington that they have to up their game (and the bar was just set pretty high with this episode) but I hope they don't lose the balance.
The Night King standing there literally raising an army of the dead silently with a single gesture gave me chills. And him just staring at Jon like "Thanks for the new recruits." An unforgettable image, imho.

An unforgettable image, imho. That. And the kid zombies. Creepy! I swear, I sat through the last 10 minutes screaming at my husband and the TV, "How the FUCK are they gonna get outta there?!?" I put a load of laundry in before settling in to watch this episode, and by the time I was done watching, I was like, "Hells no, I ain't going down into the basement to transfer those clothes to the dryer! Might be some kid zombies waiting for me down there!" Awesome episode.

I thought that I'd heard that Game of Thrones was the most popular tv show ever or something outlandish, but I just looked it up and it's still second to The Sopranos for HBO. I'm subscribing to HBONow for Game of Thrones, so it's pulling in new audiences that I think could help justify the budget. Who knows. I can't imagine how expensive it is to shoot with separate crews in all the different locations.
I really with they'd have a "making of" special. I'd really like to know how they put together that scene because it was pretty amazing.

Thanks, Babycakes! Interesting how they said it was chaos when they were filming--it really came across on the screen and I don't think it would have been as effective otherwise.

Thanks, Babycakes! Interesting how they said it was chaos when they were filming--it really came across on the screen and I don't think it would have been as effective otherwise. You're welcome. Only problem now is I can't stop watching the episode. I've watched that last 20 minutes 3 more times since Sunday. I actually want more background. Are the White Walkers (the ones on horses) all Crasters sons? If not, where did they come from? What's the ratio of those that escaped to those that died and joined the army? Who the hell is the Night King? Why did he stop? Can he freeze water? I was so expecting him to turn the water to ice, and walk across it to Jon's ship. This is insane. The white walkers are headed South, towards The Wall and on to Winterfell. It makes all the squabbles about who's running what seem petty in the grand scheme of things. How are they supposed to fight that army? There's not enough Dragon Glass or Valyrian steel to kill all the wights and White Walkers. They need dragons. They need wildfyre. This is a battle of the ages. Dany needs to be in Westoros like yesterday.

I hope they show next season both Jon and Arya warging into their wolves. Nymeria, Arya's direwolf is rumored by people in the books to be leading a pack of wolves of more than 200. If they play a part in the final showdown with the walkers, then it would fire and ice to defeat them as for sure the dragons are going to tear shit up.
There is also a theory of Visenya (the sister wife/queen of Aegon) had a sword that was made especially for a woman warrior called Dark Sister The sword was last seen with the Targaryan that became the greenseer/tree that Bran went to see. Either Dany will get that sword or Arya me thinks. Now it pisses me off that D&D focus more on rape and nudity instead of that stuff.
