She was on the TDS last night with a story about Tiger Moms and continued her streak of being painfully unfunny. Yeah, her mom was funnier than she was. That wasn't the worst thing she has done on TDS, but she just isn't in the same league as the other correspondents. Not even close.

Having heard bits and pieces about her personal life, she came into the industry with a ton of baggage. I see increasingly erratic behaviour and maybe even rehab in her future. Yeah, her Salon interview was pretty sad. Not the "she's totally off the hook" kind of sad, but more of a "there but for the grace of God go I" sort of sad. Racialicious wrote a pretty blistering open letter to Munn back when she debuted on the Daily Show, and Tiger Beatdown had an interesting take on her stints on TDS and Attack of the Show. I don't agree with everything in both links, especially since they were written pretty early into her tenure on the Daily Show and give her more personal benefit of the doubt than I think she deserves. Given when they were written, that's kind of understandable, but she's clearly an asshole.

It's a cliche but it's also true that tons of comedians have fucked-up pasts/baggage/neuroses but, unlike them, Olivia isn't talented enough to translate those dark parts of her life into actual humor. This so fucking much. Some of Richard Pryor's best material came from being raised in a brothel, and setting himself on fire trying to get high. OM comes across as bitter, emotionally stunted, and defensive. She needs some therapy to flush out some of that stuff, and then maybe should would open up and actually be funny.

That Salon interview makes me like her a little, or at least appreciate the fact that she can admit that she doesn't have it all worked out. However, more than one "incident" in the press like the latest one (isn't this the second?) make me think she's unhinged (although, who knows? These days people may do these things for publicity).
She does seem very defensive, but I probably would be too in her position.

She is attractive enough, but her personality seems non-existent. She's coasting on Pretty, and that doesn't bode well for her future prospects. Jenny McCarthy can give her tips on how to build something of a career after the "hot girl being crass like a bro" schtick wears thin.

The more I think about it, the more the whole thing makes me sad for the state of women in entertainment. I would rather downplay my looks and try to make it that way than to deal with the BS of being "sexy."

I don't think she is that good looking. In fact, I have a hard time remembering what the hell she looks like. What she is though is painfully unfunny. Maybe that is why she seems so bitter, she knows she only gets these opportunities because of her "hot looks" and not any type of talent.

lpatrice-
I disagree. To me, she's made a career of taking her clothes off and posing in bikinis in to garner attention. Then when she opens her mouth, she blathers on and on about her "talent" (and how jealous and fat we all are).
Then to make sure we're all paying attention to her, she shows up at the opening of every envelope on both coasts....
I'll admit she's got a great body... but that's about the extent of it.

In a new Carl's Jr ad in a bikini, of course! (sidenote: really, Carl's Jr, is basically saying "we want you to eat our burgers as grossly and open-mouthedly as possible supposed to be appealing!? WTF?). This is after she posed nude for an anti-circus PETA ad. But, you know, she's totally an authentic comedienne and isn't just getting by on her looks at all and we're all jus' jellus' haterz and poor.
