I wonder how many people had only seen him as Tracy on 30 Rock before this? I'm sure alot saw him on SNL as well but I have to tell you it doesn't capture the real Tracy Morgan the way an interview does. The first time I heard him on Howard Stern I was struck by how utterly charmless and well.. gross he was. He really fit in with alot of Howard's regular misogynistic pals. So I can't say I'm too shocked by alot of the stuff he's said recently. I'm not sure how to describe this but I sensed alot of anger and contempt in his jokes. But I sensed it against women, not gays or menstally disabled people. But maybe it's just a generalized misanthropy. No clue. But definitely hostile and contemptuous. I have a similar impression of MIchael Richards. The weird thing was, he was interviewed in BUST and he came off as interesting and complex. It seemed fairly honest and not "squee! Tracy Morgan! DREAMBOATY or DREAMBOATIEST???" It's been a while since I read it, but now I'm just perplexed. How much is real, and how much is fake? Wow. Now I'm intrigued. I'd really like to read that interview because he was just..gross on Stern. Of course it's Stern and Stern brings out the basest quality in people, but this seemed to be on another level. I'd love to find that interview.

Regular interviews are very different then a show like Howard Stern. I'm sure he was heavily prepped and edited in the Bust interview.

I agree that Tina Fey needs to do as much as she can to cut him loose, although it should be noted that NBC holds more of the cards in terms of ending Tracy's contract. I don't think Tina Fey has the power to just snap her fingers and fire him.
I am having a hard time putting my finger on it, but I was actually really bothered by how much people put Tina Fey on blast when this scandal came up. I'm not saying she should get a pass on anything and everything related to Tracy Morgan, but the whole ANSWER FOR THIS, TINA attitude I saw on some other sites really took me aback. Did anybody on Two and a Half Men get this much shit when Charlie Sheen went off the rails (and btw, actually DID get physical with his wife, which even Tracy Morgan hasn't stooped to)?
It's kind of pinging my sexism-dar, but like I said, I can't quite pinpoint what's bothering me. Maybe it's just that she's more of a recognizable face.

I'm sure he was heavily prepped and edited in the Bust interview. Oh, probably, but it also shows that there's a huge continuum in how he presents himself. I don't listen to Howard Stern, but I'd suspect, like tversky suggested, that he worked to appeal to the Howard Stern audience, and wouldn't answer the deeper, autobiographical questions that Bust asked, and vice versa. I guess what I'm trying to say is, as gross as I find some of TM's standup, I'm also intrigued at a distance by the different textures of his public personae.

You know, there's a way to do politically incorrect/refuge in audacity-type humor in a manner that doesn't sound like an attack against whatever group is the subject of it. It just takes finesse. Tracy Morgan does not have this finesse. He needs to just stop. There's a reason why comedians like Daniel Tosh and Chelsea Handler can get away with racial/disability/etc humor - they're mocking the stereotype, not the person. Tracey hasn't learned this and he sounds more like a Limbaugh than a Lampanelli.

TMZ reported that he was extremely intoxicated. I believe it! I hope he'll be OK and starts to get some real help.

Well, the hospital said there are no drugs or alcohol involved. But he was slurring and out of it - low blood sugar? He's diabetic, and if he went really low he could definitely have been completely zonked. I have a friend whose brother was arrested for public intoxication during a low blood sugar (they even had to pay him a settlement).
That said, of course he's got a long, miserable history. But he hasn't been looking healthy for a while now. They're saying the standard "exhaustion", and altitude. So that makes me think it wasn't blood sugar at all if they're not even mentioning it.

The CBS affiliate in Philadelphia is reporting Tracy Morgan was critically injured in a car crash in Cranbury, NJ last night. But I can't find a story on any news website. He was scheduled to perform at a Dover, DE casino on Friday night. I don't know if the car accident was before or after the show.

According to CNN, he is in intensive care after a 6 car accident including 2 tractor trailers. One person died. I believe they said his limo flipped over.
