I have images in my head of Katie, in the performance of her life, sleuthing around Misavige's office and finding L. Ron's confession that it was all a joke with Philip K. Dick!

Maybe it's not Tom per se, but something on the church itself. It seems odd that they leave her alone, when they don't usually let things go too easy. That could be my tinfoil hat talking though.... Or they could just be biding their time so that when they do strike it won't be quite so obvious. And I say that without my tinfoil hat on. I wouldn't be surprised if Nicole Kidman had a thorough independent autopsy report on her father to make sure it really was a heart attack. I don't put anything past those vindictive freaks.

I think Katie and Pa Holmes got Tommy and the clams by the short hairs during divorce proceedings, and that's why they've left her alone.
She filed for divorce in New York because it favored her and for custody of Suri. Tom's lawyer yelled and screamed about how they were going to fight it and get it moved to California and Tom was going to ask for custody of Suri, then... nothing. Suddenly it was quickly and quietly handled in New York and you can count on one hand the number of times Tom's been seen with Suri since then. Since when does Tom slink away quietly? He's the alpha male, he always comes out on top. Instead he has stepped away from the spotlight and gets no say in the big decisions regarding Suri's upbringing.
I think Katie has a massive ace up her sleeve. Something that would ruin his public image. Maybe Pa Holmes found a loophole in the confidentiality agreement she undoubtedly had to sign. Maybe she witnessed something bad/illegal. Maybe she's gone DNA results that show Tom isn't the bio dad. I don't know what it was, unfortunately I don't think we'll find out (I'm sure keeping her mouth shut was part of the agreement), but I think it was big and Tom and the clams knew that she had them so they played nice.

I think Pa Holmes is an absolute badass and he deserves some kind of major humanitarian award. He mopped the floors with the Scientologists. All because he loves his daughter. I would love to shake his hand.

I remember hearing some speculation that Katie was already pregnant by someone else by the time Tom had latched onto her.

Won't Suri have questions when she gets older? I wonder what she will be told about the whole mess and how it will effect her. There's also all the video out there of Tom and Katie and their grand romance, starting with Oprah. I'm sure Katie has a gameplan for this, but you just never know how kids will react to things that happened in their earlier childhood once they become teenagers.

But doesn't Tom love and care for his child? It's one thing to shut out a spouse that you think betrayed/rejected you and/or your religion. But a young child? If he truly believes Suri is polluted by Katie's non-Scieno cooties, wouldn't he want to rescue her? Doesn't he care?

Well, I've never bought into any of the conspiracy theories that Suri isn't Tom's biological child. But it is very likely that Katie has some type of leverage against him. And he probably believes Suri is a lost cause. A lot of fathers would not let that stop them from seeing their child regularly, but Tom is too far gone into the crazy.

To me, you're talking about a religion that puts honey and barley in a baby's bottle. They don't care what happens to their children when actual science is involved, just the scientific teachings of a science fiction writer.
They also let their kids just run amok and have very little involvement with their roles as parents (at least from what I've read), beyond thinking they're just little adults that need to have the freedom to be themselves.
For a celeb $cieno, it would seem they're just pawns in their PR game and Suri played that role far better than Conner & Isabella ever did. Probably because Nicole really wanted and loved her children and didn't marry Tom for the fame (or maybe she did), but I think she genuinely loved him and he wasn't in need of a major reboot like he was when he hooked up with Katie.

If he truly believes Suri is polluted by Katie's non-Scieno cooties, wouldn't he want to rescue her? Doesn't he care? Part of this can be due to Scientology weirdness. They claim they want to save the world, but it is really rather selfish. When someone leaves, no one tries to "save" them. Sure, they probably nicely try to get them to stay at first, but it seems to move to threats and intimidation pretty quickly. Then when someone does leave (at least someone who was in pretty deep, not just casually taking classes) it seems they are usually declared an SP. It is one of the weapons they use to make people stay (if you leave, you'll never see your friends or family again), but if they leave they follow through with the threat. And clams comply because they are told that SPs are bad for their spiritual well-being, that they are evil and actively trying to derail their progress in Scientology. Clams are further motivated to comply because they will get in trouble if the church catches them cavorting with SPs, and if a fellow clam sees you with an SP, they are required to report it. Tom is a devoted little clam, so if someone had been declared an SP, he will stay away. Even if the SP is his child. He has to protect his own standing in Scientology. Another possibility is that he's waiting until Suri is 18 and Katie can't call the shots anymore. I kinda doubt it, but maybe. Finally, my personal theory is just simply that Katie wants only non-Scientology contact with Suri, and Tom doesn't have a lot of non-clam hours in his day. If he doesn't abide by those rules, Katie drops whatever bomb she's carrying, which would harm Tom's personal image and probably the church. Would Tom put his career and the clams ahead of his daughter? I think he would.
