Yeah, and Hung Up, specifically, is a fantastic pop song. I give the credit to the ABBA sample.... The sample is most of the reason the song works, but the riff is used to greater effect than in the original song, which is exactly how samples are supposed to be used, IMO.

Can you link to the farting Anaconda vid? It was on Youtube, if it doesn't come up in a quick search maybe it was taken down? I was looking for Alan Cumming's BBC Who Do You Think You Are, but I don't remember if it popped up after that or it was on Youtube's front page. But no, "if you like Alan Cumming WDYTYA, you might also like...". No, just no.

I think she had acting talent that she squandered a long time ago with her pursuit to become a triple threat (remember that trend? so stupid!). She was on the verge of becoming a respected movie star, and she blew it. YMMV of course when it comes to sizing up acting talent (or any talent-- though consensus is usually a pretty good indicator sometimes, e.g. everyone thinks Cate Blanchett is great, even if she may have detractors). I totally agree with you that she completely squandered any good critical will after Selena and Out of Sight, but part of the talent of being a screen actress is 1) honing the skill, 2) finding good directors to work with (Soderbergh was a good start), and 3) projects that will elevate your career in some way, both in box office and acclaim. Jlo did none of that, and she was working with, IMO, a fairly empty clip to begin with (I think she's pretty damn wooden). There have been actors/actresses who I don't think are that great naturally, but who did all three of the above and are now considered talented and great. Like Brad Pitt. He's gotten better, to be sure, but he also has a very special talent in choosing projects/directors. I think the same about Clooney. He's pretty bad actually (and annoying, but whatever)! But the same applies. And Jlo really has no excuse. She was pretty powerful there for a while. I think she had her pick of projects. And she picked badly. Because she has no taste or talent. With her "music" she's just... demonstrably bad. Her singing is HORRIBLE, even with ProTools. But that's not really her problem. She had a couple of hits, but even the ones who have terrible voices or little talent WORK full-time, every day, at being a pop star. I guess I'm also agreeing with you about the nonsense of being a triple threat. It exposed how weak her foundations were in everything. But I'm also arguing that you have to have good taste as well as talent (and luck) to get to superstardom and respectability. JLo is a hard worker in certain respects, but she has had more luck than anything else (esp. with picking dresses and high-profile boyfriends). And so, in sum, talent is in the eye of the beholder sometimes (Jlo really really has none IMO), but lack of talent was not really the entirety of her problem, or why she's doing awful-looking Lifetime movies now.

That was a really boring video. No dancing, no clever wordplay, just a lot of butt-wiggling. Dullsville!

He documents that story in his new biography (plus some really harrowing family drama) and I'm going to his book signing in a couple of weeks. On topic, I've never heard a JLo song that I actually like. Or can remember.

There were several parts where I wanted the camera guy to give Alan Cumming a shoulder squeeze or half hug or something, he kept finding out more and more devastating information about his grandfather. But such a good episode. I read AC's fictional book a while ago and liked it, and I am waiting to get his autobiography from the library. On topic: Wow, JLo is stealing career ideas from Jenna Malone? That's never a good idea.

Iggy's dirty swimsuit and her completely glazed over expression are the best things about the video. I didn't catch any smudges on her swimsuit--the cuts were too damn fast. But even I could tell that the spray tan on her face stopped short of her hairline. Also, you know when your hair is wet, it sort of sticks together and glimpses of your scalp are visible? Yeah, the thin pale stripe at the hairline and scalp highlight the fakeness of the tan.

Plus, any other time she is filmed or photographed she is super white. Iggy is going obviously not into sunning... or even powder bronzing or contouring.
