Yoss, I thought of her, too. Good choice. I love fantasy casting! I'm sure the actual casting of this movie will be way underwhelming...

Apparently Charlize Theron is in talks to take the lead for Gillian's novel Dark Places. I still think she'd be a superior Amy.

I didn't know that they were making Dark Places into a movie. It could be interesting; it was a very disturbing novel and I wonder if they'd keep on the nastiness in an on-screen version? Anyway, Charlize would work in that role (or as Amy!).

I'm halfway through Dark places now, and I'm not sure I'm going to finish it. It is so relentlessly disturbing. It's actually giving me nightmares. O

O Yes, it was by far the most twisted of her novels. I found it quite hard to read too, although it was an interesting perspective on self-harm (though I'm not sure how accurate it really was) and the idea that her body would itch until she cut herself. If you're only half way through, well, the ending is really dark ...

I thought Sharp Objects was the one with the self mutilation and Dark Places the one with the brother in prison for killing the family? And Dark Places is going to be the one with Charlize Theron? I think Sharp Objects would be a lot harder to make into a film but could be brilliant and disturbing in the right hands. After watching both Bug and Killer Joe recently I'd love to see William Friedkin direct a movie adaptation of Sharp Objects.
I read that David Fincher is in talks to direct Gone Girl. I'm not a huge fan of his. I think he is a touch overrated IMO, but he would ensure the film doesn't become some some generic thriller. Although I can't picture Reese Witherspoon in a David Fincher film. I know she did some darker stuff early in her career but its been a long time since she's done something like Freeway.

Ack, you're right! Dark Places is the family massacre one. Well then, I can't see Charlize in that role. The main character is supposed to be tiny, right? And not attractive unlike Amy or the Sharp Objects woman.

(But this is what Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting.) Updating: Done deal. Charlize will produce and star in Dark Places.

I didn't really care for Dark Places. I like Sharp Objects better. Best of all of course was Gone Girl. Charlize would be good in that one.

I know she's not popular around here, but I could see Gwyneth as Amy. She certainly thinks highly enough of herself. Tall, waspy, blonde and the right age. I actually think she'd be better than Reese. And she can flip the switch from ice princess to charmer too. Well, in movies anyway.
