I watched two episodes of a show on E! called 'My Truth'. She is a nightmare. I liked her a lot less after watching. There is no discernible talent, just gimmicks, butt implants, and cheap wigs. She is like a novelty act that somehow got legitimacy. Does anyone remember Joe Dolce or Glenn Medeiros from the 80s?
Nicki sees the 'American Idol' gig and the fragrance release as sign posts of her success, where as I see them as steps celebrities take when their careers are in a lull and they want relevancy and a pay cheque.
She has a palatial estate in Malibu, an enormous entourage, and a private jet. She is an MC Hammer story waiting to happen. I hope she has a good financial adviser.

Well, she is considered a hip-hop artist, so she has a different perspective on something like that. Those are signs of just how much she has saturated the mainstream. Typically, hip-hop artists have short shelf lives and limited opportunities (and female hip-hop artists don't even make it onto the shelf). I understand a lot of people consider her talent dubious at best, but I don't have a problem with a pop-rap act. The older I get, the harder it is for me to defend the genre as a whole. I love Kanye, I like Drake, I like Nicki. I don't necessarily need socially responsible rap, and those three certainly aren't it, but I do appreciate that there are certain stereotypical rap themes that they stay away from. I think Nicki is a lot like Madonna in that she (or whoever is responsible for her music) knows how to craft a catchy song. even if her limited abilities are glaringly obvious.

What she needs to also stop doing are her stupid voices when she's flowing. She and Wiz Khalifah are like In Living Color parodies of MCs, it's pathetic.

I'm a fan of hip hop, though I tend to prefer smaller, local acts. Her stuff can be mildly catchy, but her lyrics are so incredibly inane. Like, there are multiple songs where she works in reminders to pay rent or her bills. Like, really? Those are some lazy-ass lyrics to get from one rhyme to the next.
I was rooting for her at first because she's a female rapper. That is a hard path to take. But I keep hearing stories about her being bratty and entitled and she was fighting with Mariah Carey and joking that Carey is irrelevant and a no talent (um, really?). She just doesn't seem nice.
And there was a lot of hype surrounding her when she showed up on the scene. I think they're pushing her as a hip hop Gaga. Wild costumes! Inane songs!

Agreed. And I stand by "bitch" because she seems like a nasty, mean person.

Are you sure about this? Nicki has said that she's been a Mariah fan for most of her life and even after the dust-up, Nicki referred to Mariah as a legend. I would say that I was more of a Mariah fan than a Nicki fan, but there is absolutely no way that Mariah has not been complete and total hell for Nicki to work with. It got to the point that even the AI producers were on-the-record denying Mariah's version of events. I know Nicki went after Mariah on Twitter, but it seemed to be mostly about her behavior regarding the AI mess. Also, very few rappers have a reputation for being nice. I'm sure there are nice rappers and some have better reps than others, but I can't think of any well-known, well-respected rapper who courts a reputation for being nice. I don't think there's another genre as blatantly aggressive as hip=hop/rap.I know Kanye is a jerk, there have been awful stories floating around about Wayne, Em, T.I. I've read some things that have made Jay sound like a jerk, but I don't really have an opinion on whether he's nice or not. Rap isn't just male dominated; Nicki is literally the only female doing anything on a large scale right now. I would expect her to have an edge. What she needs to also stop doing are her stupid voices when she's flowing. She and Wiz Khalifah are like In Living Color parodies of MCs, it's pathetic. I used to hate the stupid voices, but I have come to love them. They really helped to set her apart. Her personae definitely made its mark really quickly. Mariah sort of took a cue from her in the vid she did with Nicki and so many people pointed out how Beyonce seemed to be serving some Minaj realness in the video for "Telephone".

I don't know. I suspect that many (most?) celebs are jerks. That doesn't mean that I won't side-eye one when I see meanness in an interview or in the news or whatever. Minaj doesn't get a pass from me because she's a hip-hop artist.
And I don't know that the above performers are all mean. I've heard stories of Kanye being full of himself and an ass (anyone can see it with their own eyes), but I've also heard that he is nice to fans who approach him, and I respect that he has spoken out about his own homophobia and moved on to be pro-gay. Eminem is apparently a very hands-on parent and active in his kids' lives. Russell Simmons does some pretty cool things with his money, like keeping All American Muslims on the air when advertisers pulled their funds. Gangster rap era aside (and even there, ehhhh), I feel like most rappers probably aren't any worse than the average rock star.
Side note: Most of my knowledge of the Carey beef comes down to watching Minaj's tweets on the matter. But then, every celeb sounds like a jerk or an idiot on Twitter. It's really where fan crushes go to die, hah.

Ain't that the truth. I had to stop following both Henry Winkler and Cyndi Lauper because of their terrible spelling and grammar. I can't take either one of them seriously anymore. At least they're not assholes - they just need to learn how to put together a sentence.

Well in any person's defense on Twitter, they probably ruin their grammar, etc due to their only being a 140 or 160 character limit.

Henry Winkler has spoken about his struggle with dyslexia and what it did to his self esteem. I don't know about Cindy Lauper, but Henry might not be able to spell well due to dyslexia.
But, yeah, poor spelling is irritating; especially the "they're" "there" and "their" variety.
