This probably belongs in the True Confessions thread, but I like Harry's man buns and when he wears a headband. I think I'm the only person on the internet who likes them on him. On no, I love me some Harry and his man buns. So damn cute. I took my daughter to their show last year and it was great. Fun, catchy songs and they knew how to play up to the audience. Sometimes I think I may have enjoyed it more than she did.

I took my niece to see them two years ago for her 15th birthday. I'm 51 am unashamedly a boyband fan and though at the time I only knew two songs, I had a ball. Brought my binoculars and saw Harry Styles sitting off to the side of the stage watching 5 Seconds of Summer perform and was a hero to all the girls around me because then they saw him and the screaming....hee! It was fun watching my niece watch the show. She is super crazy about them and watching the joy and excitement in her whole demeanor - so worth every penny. I told her the next morning (I drove us down to Jones Beach from Boston) that I enjoyed taking her because I WAS her at one point in my life. She's pretty upset today, though it's Niall she lurves. I wish him well - I wonder what it really was that drove him to leave. He had some of the vocal parts but I don't think it will affect the performance of the group. ETA: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh tweets about Zayn. Ha ha ha!

Gosh, I'm glad I spent middle school listening near-exclusively to showtunes.

Ahem, recently my friend spent a lot of time online finding out whatever happened to the members of Cinema Bizarre, the German, glamish, Japanese influenced band that toured with Lady Gaga in 2009 and who broke up when they lost their record contract in 2010. Famous for their "fan service", where they'd make out with each other for the delight of their fans. Their quiet drummer, Shin, is the most interesting. He's the guy who spoke so little it was a joke. One interview, he whispered into the bass players ear, and then the bass player said,"Shin says 'hello'". He dj'd for a while, and went public with his cross dressing persona, in fact there's a video of "her" and the bass player getting married onstage in Russia. He also did some funny v-logs as Mr. Hangover. Oh, and now he's an award winning cinematographer. And he's 25! With his natural brown hair, instead of platinum, and no makeup. The others are around, but not transformed as much.
My friend was sad when they broke up.
...speaking of boy bands.....this too shall pass.....and then maybe at least one member of 1D will do something interesting in the future....

I haven't been able to grasp the boyband phenomenon since the heyday of NSync and BSB. Is 1D more of less popular than either of those two groups? Where would the Jonas Brothers fit in the equation? The Jonas Brothers were hugely puffed up by the Disney hype machine, not a total mirage, but 1D and even Bieber, before he went off the rails, were much more popular, with more Top 40 success (but not as much as BSB). One Direction has the global following like BSB did (while NSync were more of a US/Canada phenomenon), and can fill stadiums, for now. This might be the beginning of the end, though the Spice Girls didn't immediately crumble after Geri left. Thanks for the info GoldenFleece. It's hard to gauge what's actually huge, and wildly successful, and what's just tabloid fodder/a flash in the pan.

...and then maybe at least one member of 1D will do something interesting in the future.... They all will. In 7-12 years when they need money and get back together.

I just went and looked them up because I can't remember the individual members (my niece has educated me, but I forget). Is Liam the Chris Kirkpatrick of this group? There's always one who's not as dreamy as the others (looking at you, Andy Taylor of Duran Duran).

Liam is the one who tweeted support for the Duck Dynasty patriarch when that guy was put on hiatus for being a hate-filled maggot. Then Liam went on to explain that he supports family values, loves gay people, but is "100% straight."
That's how I keep track of who he is. He's sounds like he's the dumb and potentially small-minded one. I don't know that that is analogous to other boy bands, hah.
Actually, while I am at it, this is how I keep track of them:
Liam: The one who is probably homophobic.
Harry: The one who might be bisexual, or just enjoys throwing out quotes that suggest he is in the media. Also, he has really bad hair.
Zayne: The one who gets shit on by racists on the internet.
Niall: The one with '90s boy band hair who I equate as the Joey McIntire of the group (meaning, he looks 12).
Louis: The one I can never remember. Looks like JC Chasez.

Thanks for the lowdown, Hamatron! I hope these guys are investing their money because if they're dunzo and they're all early twenties, that money is going to have to last a loooong time.
