They performed on the UK X-Factor final yesterday. I actually haven't watched a performance of One Direction since they were X-Factor contestants but with all the hype about them recently, I was curious. I have to say, I don't think they've improved much since those days. They just seem to run around the stage and give exaggerated facial expressions when it's their turn to sing. They remind me of the Spice Girls in that they're not very polished and there's not a staggering amount of talent on display, but they have this playful cheekiness and a natural-seeming chemistry between the five of them, so I can understand why people enjoy them. ONTD has the performance if anyone wants to watch.

I've watched a few (ahem) of their performances, and I did think that one was exceptionally bad. But in general, of course, you're completely right. I do think, in general, they sound good live (or, more accurately, they sound as good as they're going to), but I do find it kind of funny that whoever isn't singing just ends up kind of...standing there. Bless.

I don't know anyone who cares about Barbara's 10 Most Fascinating People. The only soundbite I've heard coming out of it was that she called Chris Christie fat to his face.

It used to be sort of a big deal back in the day but for the past decade, it's just been a joke. It's whoever got the most face time in the media for the year.

I don't think it means much if the Honey Boo Boo kid was also on the list. (I don't dislike the Honey Boo Boo child, but I find it hard to believe an entire country is fascinated with her).

I watched the interview. I did chuckle that Harry and Liam? (the one with the shaved head) kept completely silent while the other three where emphatically denying any desire to go solo.

Heh, ronette, I did too. Liam has a good voice, but he has the personality (and, I suspect, business sense) of a kidney bean.

Well they all auditioned for X Factor individually so you'd think that deep down each of them would probably like to go solo... I dunno, maybe not. Liam seemed full of himself to me when they were on X Factor. I don't think he'd do well as a solo act... Harry maybe, but he's not that great of a singer (then again neither is his gf Taylor).
