I must admit I rather enjoy seeing the drama unfold. What can I say, glutton for punishment? Though the whole engagement is still quite a head-scratcher for me, but eh...I'll grab another bucket of popcorn.

Well the fact is I think Ben is getting married to please someone (besides himself)...... HIS MOTHER Who incidentally plays Sherlock's mother on the show. I remember reading an interview with him at his parent's place and Mom asked the interviewer if she knew any nice ladies as she was getting tired of waiting for grandchildren hehe.

It's gotten so crazy on Celebitchy, that I'm now skipping over the BC threads. One thread was dedicated to him walking the red carpet with Sophie. It has almost a thousand comments.
I read that someone is hiring an investigator to prove this is a HW set-up. These crazy ladies are also convinced that she didn't have a ring on her finger when she walked into the theater, but conveniently had one when she walked out--because Harvey paid for it. Furthermore, they also think she's a fame-whore dilettante because she didn't graduate from Oxford. The fact she can speak French and Italian fluently, as well as direct award-winning plays, sing and play the piano well is nothing to boast about. She's an embarrassment to her sex and profession, and he could have done so much better.
I swear, I'm embarrassed for my gender.
I was never into Twilight (I have standards)... so I honestly don't know. Was it this bad? I think some of these ladies are one-step away from joining Co$-- they are so off the deep end it's frightening.

They are just as bad. There are some that are convinced that Robsten is not only unbroken, but married with a baby they call sweet pea. The Fkw twiggs thing? Apparently she is an investment and total pr thing to make her famous. These people convince me mental illness is very common.

Or maybe I'm just jaded from seeing too many meltdowns in fandom. It has to be fake, because he's not engaged to one of *them*. It's obvious, when you look at it the right way.

The closest I ever came to a fandom melting down is when Russell Crowe had an affair w/ Meg Ryan. (Yes, I am embarrassed to admit I used to like Russell Crowe). I'll see myself out now.

I wonder if any psychologists have ever studied fandom meltdowns. Because I would love an explanation why some people become so involved in the personal life of a person they never met.
I wonder what will happen if (I only say if because hey things happen not because I think the engagement is fake) they get married. How will the engagement truthers explain that? If they have kids? Will they insist the baby really isn't Benedict's or she faked the pregnancy for attention?

When the news was first announced, I was pleasantly surprised by his Tumblr tag -- people were pretty congratulatory. A little overinvested, but congratulatory. I guess the public appearance brought out the crazy.
Not gonna lie, the fandom meltdown I'm really waiting for is when Tom Hiddleston gets married/engaged.

I can't even begin to comprehend the people who think Rob and Kristen are together w/ a baby. How to they explain their average acting skills in accordance with this HUGE charade? And I would also LOVE to get a psychoanalysis of these women. Some of the fans do seem really young. Others seem to be middle age, and that fascinates me more. I know that on Celebitchy, a lot of the women are married, and seem to have meaningful careers... so it's not like they're all cat ladies spinsters living out the fantasy (no offense to Greecies who love cats and are not married). Before my eyes began to roll down the hallway from side-eyeing the crazy-ass theories, I read that the "truthers" came to the conclusion that this has been a long con. It started when Harvey bought the rights to TIG. BC started auditioning potential wives, and settled on Sophie because -- now follow with me-- her BFF is dating Harvey's brother-in-law. Apparently, said BIL is the CEO of Marchesa. I don't know how the crazies explained that Sophie wasn't in the requisite godawful Marchesa gown for the premiere, but apparently they're not letting a few pesky facts get in the way of their narrative. I have to say, they look like a couple and I hope they're really happy and can deal with the crazy. I really do feel sorry for Sophie. She's in a no-win situation. I don't follow Tom's career much, so I don't know what that fandom is all about, but I've heard they are OBSESSIVE. I guess I should be happy that my obsessive love for John Taylor/Duran Duran came before the internet. I remember I had an unnatural hatred of Renee Simenson, and bought a lot of Tiger Beats, but that's really all I remember- and it was short-lived. Now I look back at my naive self and laugh. Ah, to be 13 years old.

The internet allows these people to congregate and that makes the problem worse. When you're only surrounded by like-minded people who are agreeing with you 100%, it's easier to fall down the rabbit hole of unreality. I've seen people that started out relatively sane and normal become more and more unhinged because they have the hive-mind to back them up.
That said, with what we've seen from the likes of Kimye and CTC, it's no wonder that people are calling 'media stunt!' with every celeb news story these days.
