Just came back from London where I saw Benedict as Hamlet last night. Since it was a preview and the very first one, there were still things that need some fine-tuning. But my God, that man can act. I know, not a surprise but I swear, he was born for the stage. He moves around the stage like a ballet dancer who really knows his stuff. His presence is fascinating but you can tell that he never purposefully tries to upstage his cast members. Oh, and he's simply a very good-looking man. Nothing odd, off or otter-like about his face. I always thought that he looks better in movement than photos might suggest but in real life he looks fantastic. Yes, I'm a teeny tiny bit in love (for now) ;-)

Awesome! I wish I could have seen it. I think I read somewhere that they might televise it. Would love that!

There's a live broadcast shown in cinemas worldwide on October 15 (I think). I'd definitely recommend seeing it, I'll be going too; I'm interested in seeing the changes they will have made to the production by then. By the way, no shrieking or anything from the audience. But you could tell that everybody moved forward in their seats whenever Benedict appeared. People seemed to hold their breath, it was that quiet :-)

You lucky duck. I love live theater. I love Shakespeare. I love the Ben.
He is just one of the seemingly endless pool of Brits who are taking over Hollywood. American actors need to step up their game. There used to be a time when American method actors were the best movie actors in world. Those days are long gone.
Now it seems that most American Actors aren't even good enough to play Americans.
As someone on black twitter said, "Hollywood so white, that even our home grown white people aren't white enough to play them. We have to import people who are even whiter."

Plus British actors haven't immobilized their faces with plastic surgery and fillers.

Oh, I don't know about that. Rupert Everett, Kate Beckinsale, and Katherine Zeta Jones definitely have. A lot. But I guess it's not as ubiquitous (or perhaps as heavy-handed?) as U.S. celebs?

So, Benedict has requested fans not to take pictures or film Hamlet. His reasoning is he wants to give audience members the best possible performance he can and it's harder to do that with lights flashing in his face and distracting him and other cast members. Here are the following reactions:
Normal and sane people- This is a perfectly reasonable request. He wants to do his job to the best of his ability but it's difficult to do that if you got lights going off in your face at any given moment. Besides taking pictures/filming is disrespectful other audience members.
Crazy people: OMG! How DARE Benedict tell us what to do? We're paying money to SEE HIM perform! WE ARE THE REASON WHY HE CAN DO HAMLET! How dare he request we not film?! DOES HE NOT KNOW OTHER PEOPLE CAN'T SEE IT! I can't believe how he has changed! THE REAL BENEDICT WOULD NEVER MAKE SUCH A REQUEST! FIRST FAKING A MARRIAGE AND BABY FOR AN OSCAR AND NOW THIS?! IF HE WAS THE GREAT ACTOR HE THINKS HE IS HE COULD STILL PERFORM WITH DISTRACTIONS! HE'S JUST BEING LAZY!

Are these mole people? I've never been to a stage performance of anything where they don't specify "no flash photography" in the program.
