They are currently shooting season 3 and if they bunch all his scenes together, he could probably pull it off before going to the other show. Though honestly, if that storyline disappeared, I wouldn't complain too much. It is a total mess, and nearly every other character on the show is far more compelling than those two. It's by far my least interesting storyline/least interesting characters. Daya's backstory bored me in S1 and the 'courtship' that has supposedly blossomed into love was lost on me. I just don't care.

That storyline is so incredibly cheesy. It feels like fanfic. There's no complexity -- other than !!dramaz!! -- and anytime they show up on an episode it feels like a soap-opera break. I'd rather they focus on Flaca, Marisol, or more bad-ass Gloria... or even toxic Aleida (maybe not so much her, I feel like I know her type already and I don't need more).

I'd appreciate the Bennett/Daya relationship if the baby was born and I could see some actual repercussions. The whole pregnancy/constipation thing was gross.

I'm on a rewatching jag since I got my friend hooked on this show now (*rubs hands evily) And on second viewing, I'm finding myself confused about somethings I didn't pay attention too earlier. **Mild Spoilers ahoy**
Like, I don't get Gloria's foodstamp fraud or how that worked. They showed a guy giving her a $100 foodstamp card for a beer and she gives him back $50 (plus the beer). For one thing, how would she know how much money was still on the card or if he'd already spent it all. And then once she had it... in theory, she'd have $100 for groceries- but then where did she get the box full of cash from? Unless she was reselling the cards she got. She mentioned something about putting things on the books she never sold in the store- but I still don't get where she got the cash from.
Also, same with Vee. She was charging books of stamps for cigs. What exactly are loads of stamps going to do for her unless she again resells them somehow. Someone mentioned her boys on the outside would turn them into cash for her... but again- how? Maybe I am naive, but is there really a business for black market postage stamps? I know she was constantly schooling her 'girls' on profit margins and the benefits of Forever Stamps... but they're stamps! Inside the prison, the best she could do with them is send lots of letters. I guess I'm not seeing monetary gain to be gotten with postage stamps here. I mean, I guess if her guys sold them at reduced price it would still be all profit to them... But then how did they pay for the tobacco they smuggled in... and also the heroin? Unless that was stolen. Which knowing Vee, would be quite belivable. But I still can't believe this whole drug/tobacco ring complete with beatings and slockings for anyone who gets in its way is all for a bunch of stamps! What am I missing?!?!?
All that said, this show really rocks on multiple levels. I love how one person's story or situation will play out into someone else's story or situation (Like Red's need to get rid of Pornstache and Daya's need to find a faux! Baby Daddy coming together so neatly... even though it still wound up with unpleasent consequences for both of them) And there are all these little details added that I've only caught on the rewatch. Like the woman having her baby in prison (forgot her name, sorry) and the other women are trying to give her Pineapple drinks to help things along. Then in the same episode, Polly is out to dinner sipping some kind of Pineapple drink and suddenly needs Larry to take her to the hospital. Also, O'Neill vaguely mentioning his diet plans involving a GoGurt and then sucking on that GoGurt while Healy's having a meltdown was so classic. Plus his vaguely mentioned bangolina not only making an appearance later but providing utter hilarity in what could have been a throwaway scene with the nuns. Too much!
I love how fleshed out the characters are. There's no real stock stereo-types. Even the bad guy characters have depth. It doesn't make them less bad or even sympathetic in most cases (I mean boo hoo, Healy. So your Russian mail order bride hates you. You don't get to send folks to SHU just 'cause!) It still makes them so much richer than you would expect in a show already so chock full of rich characters. Gosh, even the hillbilly meth heads have breakout moments on occasion.
Ok, I will shut up now. But rewatching with a friend in tow this time has brought out a lot that I missed before on the show... And I already liked it tons even before catching these little details. :-)!!

One of the background storylines I love is Bell and O'Neill's office romance. They are just so damn cute together.

Ooh, here's a fun topic that I am stealing from a comment on a Jezebel article: Who would we rather have play Larry? Who would be the perfect Larry, the jerk character, if we were somehow able to get rid of Jason Biggs, the jerk real guy?

I wonder how stuff like the stamps work as well. And how does Red pay for the stuff she smuggles in? Sure, she can trade it for other commissary goods or favors on the inside, but someone on the outside has to pay for that stuff. Unless it is stolen? But how did she pay the driver, etc, when things are smuggled in on the delivery truck?
I obviously don't know prison contraband economics.

I posted about this over in celebrity dumb quotes, but Jason Biggs is in the middle of a Twitter fuckstorm right now for making a joke about the Malaysian airlines. Dude actually has a history of making fun of the recently deceased. He's actually worse of a human being than his character. I'd be all for his character just leaving entirely. Have Piper and her friend rebuild their friendship and bond over completely wrecking their lives.

Ya know, even as I scratch my head over postage stamps as currency, I never really put much thought into Red's contraband. I assumed since she gave the Mafia guys the idea to set up the Neptune Produce gig with the prison, they gave her her stuff for free. She said they owed her (And they probably did since it seems insinuated that she took a fall for them)
Red was a mafia accessory... But in Vee's case she was the big boss. I can't see her connections on the outside doing anything for her beyond dancing around singing 'Ding Dong the Bitch' and striking out on their own like poor doomed RJ was trying to do.
I guess I can see some big mafia guys giving Red snacks and cosmetics on the side as it's a favor to someone who helped them out and its no skin off their noses to keep her happy in prison since it's their fault she's there. Vee's folks- Why would they give her tobacco and heroin so she could give them... Stamps? (Even if they are Forever Stamps) There just seems a disproportionate give and take going on here. Although then again... Vee might be JUST that scary!
(Or was just that scary... Thanks Rosa! ;-)!
P.S. Hamatron's post came up while I was rambling. OMG! Why does Jason Biggs suck so bad! I mean, Larry sucks... But there's no reason for real life suckitude! What he's famous for sticking his junk in a pie and now he wants to be better known for sticking his foot in his mouth? How about being famous for being a decent person instead. Sheez!

Yeah, I think Red gets her stuff for free because she got that guy the contract in the first place (and I think her sons are involved with it somehow). Re: stamps, my understanding is that since stamps are legal tender, you can technically pay for anything with the equivalent amount in stamps (stores aren't obligated to take it, I assume, but it is technically allowed). I don't fully understand it though either; these two articles talk about the use of stamps as currency within prison, so maybe that's what Vee was doing. I assumed Gloria was working at least partly on the honor system--she gets a reputation for giving cash for cards and in turn they don't stiff her.
